Alternative Data And Insider Trading: Are Investment Managers Assleep At The Wheel On Big Data Use?, William Montemarano

Brooklyn Journal of Corporate, Financial & Commercial Law

The rapid rise of “big data” has transformed the way that professional investors make investment decisions. In addition, the intersection of the United States federal securities laws and the use of “big data” to inform securities trading lies in uncharted waters. The nuanced and factually-dependent securities laws are far behind industry practices, and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) have remained largely silent on the issue to date. The United Nations, through a series of five treaties, has created a body of international space law which controls the activities in space of states, international organizations, and private interests. Corporations planning an investment in commercial space ventures must consider the restrictions and obligations which space law will impose on their activities. This article discusses the substantive principles of the law of outer space and focuses on those provisions which will affect commercial space activities.

As environmental awareness has surged over the last two decades, environmental law has rapidly developed. In both agricultural and industrial countries, the environment is a sensitive and vital area where substantial economic interests are at stake. In the United States, many social, political, and economic reasons have spawned rapid expansion of environmental law. Congress has enacted numerous statutes and empowered federal agencies, primarily the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), to adopt standards and enforce these new laws. The Large Civil Aircraft Industry: Applying Legal Policy-Making Tools To Accommodate A Changing Industry, Dennis G. Terez

This note first examines the emergence of Airbus Industrie (Al or Airbus) and identifies some of the legal and policy instruments which the European governments have employed to make Al a successful competitor. After a brief discussion of the growing difficulties with subsidy policies, the note considers European Community legislation for a common European industrial policy and the creation of a European Export Bank as possible alternative solutions for maintaining Al's competitiveness.
