Creativity Inspired Community: A Practice And Process For Growing Communities Through Group Creativity, David Eyman Jun 2015

Creativity Inspired Community: A Practice And Process For Growing Communities Through Group Creativity, David Eyman

Creativity and Change Leadership Graduate Student Master's Projects

This project explores the use of group creativity practices to support changing attitudes and the formation of cohesive communities in civic and business settings. More specifically this project explores the use of a predetermined sequence of group creativity tools to facilitate a change in participant mentality. The attitudinal shift is from self-serving to engaged and collaborative. The ultimate outcome of using the proposed framework is the bonding of incompatibly opinionated people into a solidified community that is responsible for implementing their novel ideas. Ideas formed within this process are a reflection of the individual’s personal life objectives as they relate …

A Heritage Vision For Sustainable Housing Goes To Icac, Lucas Ihlein Jan 2014

A Heritage Vision For Sustainable Housing Goes To Icac, Lucas Ihlein

Faculty of Law, Humanities and the Arts - Papers (Archive)

Last week the New South Wales Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) began investigating a political donation of A$18,000 made by Nathan Tinkler’s Buildev corporation.

The 2010 donation helped fast-track approval for 1,400 medium-density homes in Sydney’s western suburb of North Richmond. Local residents have long been opposed to the development; they claim it will choke already congested roads in and out of the area. But recent news reports have missed a crucial aspect of the development proposal: it will obliterate a site of national heritage significance.

Tree Preservation Orders: A New Vision?, Andrew H. Kelly Jan 2013

Tree Preservation Orders: A New Vision?, Andrew H. Kelly

Faculty of Law, Humanities and the Arts - Papers (Archive)

The purpose of this paper is to explore the history of tree preservations orders (TPOs) in New South Wales (NSW), Australia, commencing with early British legislation leading to a standard set of clauses set down by the NSW State Government. Until recently, TPOs provided a perfect example of slavishly following the British approach. The relevant sphere here is local government. The paper examines the original emphasis on the notion of amenity, which still prevails. It then moves on to opportunities for local government to embrace biodiversity conservation. It will be argued that the current statutory instrument that lays down the …

Drivers' Licenses And Age Limits: Imposition Of Driving Restrictions On Elderly Drivers, Katherine Mikel Aug 2012

Drivers' Licenses And Age Limits: Imposition Of Driving Restrictions On Elderly Drivers, Katherine Mikel

Marquette Elder's Advisor

In today's world, most people perceive the ability to drive as a necessity for daily existence, and the elderly population is no exception. However, driving is a privilege and not a skill, not a fundamental right. Research indicates that there is a positive correlation between increased age and decreased physical and mental capacity to drive. Driving requires expeditious reflexes and acute awareness. Considering the research and skills required the question becomes at what age are people too old to continue driving and should age caps on licensing be instituted?

The Public Choice Of Driving Competence Regulations, Margaret Brinig

Journal Articles

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to describe and classify each state's driver's licensing laws and then test whether the licensing laws affect the percentages of over-64 persons licensed and the proportion of older drivers involved in accidents to determine an optimal level of driving.

Design and Methods: This paper evaluates state driving rules, obtained from laws, regulations, and driver's manuals, tests, based upon Department of Transportation data, whether the type of laws affects driving and accident rates for those over 64 and suggests a uniform scheme combining self-reporting of driving problems, on-the-road tests of drivers who fall below …

Ocular Effects Of Whiplash, James Jay Brown Jan 1963

Ocular Effects Of Whiplash, James Jay Brown

Cleveland State Law Review

The purpose of this article is to show how one may establish a cause of action for eye damages caused by whiplash trauma by presenting current medical literature which proves a cause and effect relation. Considering the vast complexity of the ocular mechanism, and its connection with the cervical spine region, a neuro-muscular-skeletal explanation of these areas will precede the medical documentation. Court decisions supporting petitions for this type of eye damage are unavailable. However, in order to show that whiplash trauma has, in the past, included some ocular disturbances, a few cases will follow the documentation in support of …
