Remembrance, Jennifer L. Chapman

Georgia Law Review

I never had Professor Dupre in class. In fact, I did not meet her
until the summer before my third year of law school. I was the
new Editor in Chief, and she had just been appointed as the
faculty advisor for the Georgia Law Review. Having heard about
Professor Dupre's classes, I was pretty sure I had walked into the
wrong office when I met the funny, cordial, and delightful woman
sitting behind the desk. This was the intimidating professor who
struck fear in the hearts of innumerable students? Impossible-
she was too nice. Professor Dupre and I continued …

Remembrance, Thomas A. Eaton

Georgia Law Review

I was most fortunate to have known Anne Dupre in a variety of
settings. I first met Anne when she was a 1L student in my Torts
class. We remained in touch during her two clerkships and a stint
with a Washington, D.C. law firm. When Anne decided to become
a law professor, I helped recruit her to our faculty. We both
taught first year courses, often in the same section. Anne became
one of my closest friends and colleagues. As I reflect on our
relationship that covers many decades one theme sticks out: Anne
took things seriously. She walked …

My thanks to the Georgia Law Review for dedicating this
Volume to my former colleague and close friend, Professor Anne
Dupre.
In her Dedication and Remembrance in the prior issue, Hillary
Miller, the Review's Senior Managing Editor, described Professor
Dupre as a person who "lived a passionate life." Passionate indeed
is the word that comes to mind when remembering Anne Dupre.

Biolchini Hall of Law Dedication October 8, 2010

Notre Dame Law School’s completely renovated Biolchini Hall of Law was dedicated on Friday October 8. Fr. John Jenkins blessed the building after a mass of celebration in the Basilica.

The Hall is named in honor of the Biolchini family. A $15 million gift from Robert and his wife Fran — and a number of additional gifts from other generous benefactors — made the renovation possible.

A private reception and dinner was held for all the benefactors after the ceremonies. Among the honored guests and speakers was Associate Justice Samuel Anthony Alito, …

Georgia Law Review

Professor Anne Proffitt Dupre passed away on June 22, 2011,
following a hard-fought battle with cancer. She attended law
school at the University of Georgia where she graduated first in
her class in 1988 and served as the editor in chief of the Georgia
Law Review. She clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Harry A.
Blackmun following a clerkship with Judge J.L. Edmondson of the
U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. In 1994, she returned
to Georgia Law and joined the faculty as a professor specializing in
education law and contract law. Prior to her passing, Professor
Dupre …

Joseph P. Tomain: Champion Of Human Rights, Bert B. Lockwood Jr.

Faculty Articles and Other Publications

The art of building institutions is underappreciated. The average life of law school deanships is under four years. Joe Tomain devoted fifteen years to building the University of Cincinnati College of Law, and few truly appreciate the challenges he overcame and the principled leadership he demonstrated time and again.

Marilyn & Edward Bellet: A Dedication, William Michael Treanor

Georgetown Law Faculty Publications and Other Works

Fordham Law School is defined by its profound and extraordinary commitment to legal ethics and to the service of others. Tragically, this year two remarkable people who played a central role in establishing that commitment were lost. It is difficult to imagine that any law school could ever have supporters more involved, encouraging, or dynamic than Ed and Marilyn Bellet. Ed and Marilyn were great benefactors of Fordham Law's ethics and professionalism programs, they were the torchbearers of a commitment that has spanned many years and generations, and they were great friends to so many of us. This issue of …

The Doctrine Of Equivalents And Claiming The Future After Festo, Joshua Sarnoff Jan 2004

The Doctrine Of Equivalents And Claiming The Future After Festo, Joshua Sarnoff

College of Law Faculty

In two recent cases, Warner-Jenkinson Co. v. Hilton Davis Chemical Co., 520 U.S. 17 (1997), and Festo Corp. v. Shoketsu Kinzoku Kogyo Kabushiki Co., 535 U.S. 722 (2002), the Supreme Court unanimously approved of the modern doctrine of equivalents articulated in Graver Tank & Manufacturing Co. v. Linde Air Products Co., 339 U.S. 605 (1950). The Court also extended equivalents protection to later-arising technologies and imperfectly reconciled the modern doctrine with the doctrine of prosecution history estoppel for amended claims. The Court's new doctrine conflicts with historic implied-disclaimer standards. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has further …
