What if they got it wrong? The fear of being cancelled - the public shaming for remarks that are deemed racist - has had a chilling effect on having meaningful conversations about racism. What lost opportunities!
This paper moves this discussion into the law school context. How might law schools rethink their law school curricula to more accurately represent the role systemic racism has played in shaping …

The Drive To Advise: A Study Of Law Students At A Pro Bono Brief Advice Project, Linda F. Smith
The Drive To Advise: A Study Of Law Students At A Pro Bono Brief Advice Project, Linda F. Smith
Utah Law Faculty Scholarship
Law school aims to teach lawyering skills as well as legal analysis. While all students must acquire the skills of legal analysis, research and writing, law schools may decide what other skills to teach. Students also acquire skills and habits in informal ways, through clerkship experiences or pro bono volunteer work. However, there has been almost no study of what “skills” students pick up in these informal ways, and whether there are skills that would better be learned as part of the curriculum. This study looks at the skill of legal interviewing employed by students in a pro bono brief …

Career services professionals can utilize faculty as an additional resource when working to coach law students and alumni to successful careers. Working across departmental “silos” can help improve student career outcomes and engagement by tapping into additional professional contact networks. Developing relationships with tenure-track, contract and adjunct faculty, inviting them to programming, asking them to participate on committees and keeping faculty apprised of student employment, allow for a holistic and collaborate approach to advising students.

The Global Preclinical Antibacterial Pipeline, Kevin Outterson
The Global Preclinical Antibacterial Pipeline, Kevin Outterson
Faculty Scholarship
Antibacterial resistance is a great concern and requires global action. A critical question is whether enough new antibacterial drugs are being discovered and developed. A review of the clinical antibacterial drug pipeline was recently published, but comprehensive information about the global preclinical pipeline is unavailable. This Review focuses on discovery and preclinical development projects and has found, as of 1 May 2019, 407 antibacterial projects from 314 institutions. The focus is on Gram-negative pathogens, particularly bacteria on the WHO priority bacteria list. The preclinical pipeline is characterized by high levels of diversity and interesting scientific concepts, with 135 projects on …

Combating Professional Error In Bankruptcy Analysis Through The Design And Use Of Decision Trees In Clinical Pedagogy, Timothy R. Tarvin
St. John's Law Review
(Excerpt)
This Article will address the positive impact of using the decision tree model in four parts. Part I will provide a historical overview of the evolution of legal education and the profession’s call for more experiential education, both generally and specifically, through clinical training and the use of technology. This Section will provide context and argue that the use of decision trees in the clinical setting is the natural culmination of the legal academy’s goals of teaching analytical skills, preparing graduates for practice, and incorporating new technology into the practice of law.
Part II will describe the legal malpractice …
