Universities are typically considered to have two complementary goals: providing education and performing research. While the determination of which objective deserves primacy has long been debated and is not within the scope of this paper, it is indisputable that productive research serves to further a university's goal of education, both directly by adding to the body of knowledge to be dispensed to the students and indirectly by increasing the university's prestige, thereby attracting lucrative grants, quality students, and competitive faculty members to the university. Academic Research Interests Of Casino Resort Properties, Collin Ramdeen, Susan Raymakers, Robert H. Bosselman

This study surveyed department executives and chief executive officers from casino resort properties. The 52 respondents represented 22 percent of the total surveyed. These respondents were asked to indicate how much their company valued outside research, and the best vehicle for distributing outside research to casino resort properties. They were also asked to rate their relative degree of interest in specific research topic areas. The results indicate that most of the casino resort properties were interested in academic research. Security research published in academic journals rarely finds its way to the business community or into the classroom. Even though the research is of high quality, it is written in a manner that is difficult to read and to understand. This paper argues that one way to get this academic research into the business community is to incorporate it into security classrooms. To do so, however, academic articles need to be adapted into a classroom-friendly format. Research is something we all do. Some research is a necessary evil, some a delightful passage, some unmitigated drudgery. Our general concern this evening is to hone the concept of legal research, at least as it is manifested by law professors and lawyers. More specifically, how does academic research and advocacy research differ in the world of law and what unique obligations might such differences suggest for the law professoriate?
