Applicability Of The Duplication Of Purchase Law To Gaming, Desmond Lam Dec 2012

Applicability Of The Duplication Of Purchase Law To Gaming, Desmond Lam

UNLV Gaming Research & Review Journal

In a bid to explore the use of an empirical-based model to explain regular gaming purchases, this study applies the Duplication of Purchase Law to gaming. Developed from empirical-based marketing theory and observed in many consumer brands, the Duplication of Purchase Law states that the dominant factor of purchase duplication between two brands is their market share. Using data obtained from the U.S. Gambling Impact Study, this study found that the duplication of games played was highly correlated to their penetration rates and hence, market share. In addition, the number of sole gamblers in each game was also related to …

Estimating The Indirect Gaming Contribution Of Bingo Rooms, Anthony F. Lucas, William T. Dunn, Anna Kharitonova Dec 2012

Estimating The Indirect Gaming Contribution Of Bingo Rooms, Anthony F. Lucas, William T. Dunn, Anna Kharitonova

UNLV Gaming Research & Review Journal

Using data from two repeater market hotel casinos, the relationship between bingo and slot business volumes is explored. Contrary to conjecture supplied by industry executives, the results fail to demonstrate a statistically significant relationship between daily bingo headcount and coin-in. This result was found in three different analyses, including one· attempt to estimate the impact of bingo headcount on low-denomination coin-in. This study advances the literature by challenging the assumption that bingo rooms produce substantial indirect slot profits. Given the minimal direct contribution to property cash flows, if any, the results suggest that bingo rooms are not always the highest …

Financial Competitiveness Of Macau In Comparison With Other Gaming Destinations, Zheng Gu, Jason Zhicheng Gao

UNLV Gaming Research & Review Journal

This paper analyzes the financial competitiveness of the Macau gaming industry visa- vis its counterparts in North America and Europe. The analysis covers casino product structure, revenue composition, assets productivity and financial returns of Macau versus those of gaming destinations in North America and Europe. The findings reveal that while Macau is advantageously positioned in terms of assets productivity and financial returns, its casino product structure and revenue composition seem at odds with today's gaming trend. Macau is facing challenges from emerging competitors in Asia. To maintain a stable gaming revenue growth and retain its competitiveness, Macau must modify its …

A Winning Hand: A Proposal For An International Regulatory Schema With Respect To The Growing Online Gambling Dilemma In The United States, John D. Andrle

UNLV Gaming Research & Review Journal

While a multitude of Internet enterprises folded in the 1990s, online gambling websites not only have held strong, but appear to be ready to increase the stakes. No business relating to the Internet currently generates more revenue than online gambling, and that trend does not look like it will change soon. While many Americans desire to participate in this form of cyber-gambling, the current legality of their ability to do so remains vague. For the most part, an American's ability to gamble currently resides under the purview of state law and a hodgepodge of antiquated federal wire acts. The nature …

The Need For Self Regulation And Alternative Dispute Resolution To Moderate Consumer Perceptions Of Perceived Risk With Internet Gambling, Rohan Miller Dec 2012

The Need For Self Regulation And Alternative Dispute Resolution To Moderate Consumer Perceptions Of Perceived Risk With Internet Gambling, Rohan Miller

UNLV Gaming Research & Review Journal

The legislative gaps in international eCommerce and specifically in the gambling industry mean that many consumers face the market condition of caveat emptor (let the buyer beware). In terms of consumer psychology, caveat emptor increases consumer perceptions of risk and slows the diffusion of Internet gambling. This paper discusses the specific risks associated with Internet gambling and presents an industry structure designed to off-set consumer perceptions of perceived risk through industry self regulation and alternative dispute management techniques.

Designing Culturally Compatible Internet Gaming Sites, Sudhir H. Kale

UNLV Gaming Research & Review Journal

Rising e-commerce volumes the world over provide opportunities to global marketers to expand their markets using the Internet. While Internet casinos have had their share of failures, the industry still rakes in three times the revenues as web pornography. Converging web technology allows for Internet gaming operators to expand their markets all over the world. However, appealing to consumers in different countries and regions requires adaptation of websites to the cultural milieu of the various target markets. This paper reviews existing literature on culture and website design and goes on to discuss the impact of culture on designing Internet gaming …

UNLV Gaming Research & Review Journal

Internet Casino-Style Gambling: Is It Legal In Nevada?, Marc G. Warren

UNLV Gaming Research & Review Journal

The State of Nevada, to retain its position as pace setter in U.S. casino gaming regulation, took important legislative steps to prepare for online gambling. This article traces the shift from implementing online gambling across state lines to intrastate gaming within Nevada with hand-held devices in auxiliary areas of a casino complex beyond the casino floor. Regulatory issues are raised and prospects for inaugurating interactive gaming are discussed.

Change Management: Antecedents And Consequences In Casino Crm, Sudhir H. Kale Dec 2012

Change Management: Antecedents And Consequences In Casino Crm, Sudhir H. Kale

UNLV Gaming Research & Review Journal

Customer Relationship Management (CRM) continues to attract increasing attention within the casino industry. While the vital role of change management in making CRM projects successful has been acknowledged for quite some time, there is little in extant literature to explain the nature and conduct of change management in the CRM context. This article posits that relevant change management is a prerequisite for successful implementation of a casino's CRM. Change management involves five key initiatives: selling change internally, creating an appropriate infrastructure for change management, CRM-relevant training, a reconfiguration of the organization structure and performance assessment measures, and recasting existing incentive …
