Remote Work Evolution and COVID-19
- In 2019, 7% of full paid workdays were done remotely. During the pandemic, that number substantially grew to 60%, and by 2023 it shrunk down to 28%. Elements of remote work have even spread to multiple industries such as healthcare, finance, and education (Barrero et al., 2023).
- Direct relationship between self-perceived job performance and remote work productivity. However, living with children under 18 negatively impacts remote work engagement and productivity (Toscano & Zappalá, 2021).
- Remote work can be associated with increases in Total Factor Productivity (TFP). Between 2019 and 2021, a 1% increase in the …
The Role Of Money In Elections, Brandon Nabbefeld
The Role Of Money In Elections, Brandon Nabbefeld
Undergraduate Research Symposium Posters
What if your vote mattered less than a millionaire’s donation? In every election cycle, billions of dollars flow into campaign war chests but what does that mean? Let’s follow the money and see who is truly influencing our elections. Money plays a powerful role in shaping electoral outcomes and public policy in democratic systems. In the United States, campaign funding has become increasingly dominated by large donations. This is because in 2010, Citizens United v. FEC decision opened the doors for unlimited independent political spending, sparking widespread concerns about fairness, transparency, and the influence of wealthy donors in politics.

Undergraduate Research Symposium Podium Presentations
Money plays a powerful role in shaping political outcomes by significantly influencing who gets elected and which policies are prioritized. Campaign financing, which includes donations from individuals, corporations, and Political Action Committees (PACs), often determines a candidate's visibility, resources, and ability to compete effectively. Those with greater financial backing tend to dominate media coverage and reach more voters, which can tip the scales in elections.

2025 Event Invitations
Join us for a thought-provoking talk with Professor Joel Swanson of Sarah Lawrence College as he explores the intense debates over free speech and its boundaries within the French Jewish community during the Dreyfus Affair. At this pivotal time, French Jews debated extensively the question of whether there should be limits on speech in the name of protecting the Jewish community. By examining these historical debates and their outcomes, Professor Swanson will highlight parallels with the current discussions surrounding American Jews, pointing to historical precedents for lessons about how to approach current controversies. Although 1775 is indisputably the birth year of the US Army, two events occurred on June 14 of that year to which the Army can credit its birthday. One is the adoption by the Continental Congress of the collective militia forces from several colonies outside Boston to form a Continental Army, of which Congress appointed George Washington the commander in chief on June 15, 1775. In addition, the US Regular Army officially dates its beginning to June 14, 1775, when the Second Continental Congress directed 10 companies of expert riflemen to be raised immediately in Pennsylvania, …

Why Liberal Feminist Law Fail Women Volunteers In India And The United States: Between Activism And Complicity, Amanda L. Stephens
Why Liberal Feminist Law Fail Women Volunteers In India And The United States: Between Activism And Complicity, Amanda L. Stephens
Presentations - 2025
In this section from my book, Women Volunteers in India and the United States: Between Activism and Complicity, I examine the potential and limitations of liberal-feminist laws in India and the United States to achieve gender equality. Liberal feminism, a strand of feminist thought, argues that gender equality can be achieved by reforming existing legal and political systems. For instance, a liberal-feminist approach to eradicating workplace sexual harassment might involve passing laws like Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which allows employees to seek redress for harms caused by such practices.

2025 Event Invitations
Join us for a discussion on judicial independence and impartiality with Judge Shira Scheindlin, NYU Law Professor Burt Neuborne, and author Jeffrey Toobin. In Floyd v. City of New York (2013), Judge Scheindlin ruled that the NYPD’s stop-and-frisk program was unconstitutional, ordering reforms and oversight. Days later, the Second Circuit reassigned the case, citing concerns about the appearance of impartiality due to her public statements. Professor Neuborne, who objected to her removal in a brief to the court, and Toobin, who covered the case for The New Yorker, will join Judge Scheindlin to examine the implications of this decision and …

From intake to deposition, mediation, and trial, legal clients are traversing one of the most re-traumatizing experiences of their lives when they decide to seek justice. Understanding how to address this from a personal and systems theory approach benefits survivors and attorneys alike, increasing client satisfaction, referrals, retention, and preventing longitudinal burnout. In this presentation, Dr. Laura McGuire, creator of the Certified Trauma-Informed ® Legal Professional program, will highlight some of the key areas of TIC in practice and offer additional insight into real-world application.

Justice, Human Rights, And The New Charisma Of Anti-Democratic Ideologies, Cardozo Law Institute In Holocaust And Human Rights (Clihhr), Floersheimer Center For Constitutional Democracy, Matthias Mahlmann
2025 Event Invitations
Democracies are under pressure worldwide – externally by authoritarian states and internally by political forces that spread anti-democratic ideologies even if masked by avowed concern for the people. While reasons are intensely debated, this talk critically revisits explanations for the charisma of post-democratic ideologies by (1) investigating normative foundations of the exacting and fragile project of democracy and its relation to human rights and (2) discussing human rights theory in times of widespread human rights skepticism and its meaning for crises of democracy. How can we defend the project of democracy in theory and practice?
