A World Wide Web Site Of Special Education Law For Educators In Illinois, Roger L. Epperson Jan 2000

A World Wide Web Site Of Special Education Law For Educators In Illinois, Roger L. Epperson

Masters Theses

Any educational decision regarding evaluation, placement, or instruction of special education students involves legal liability and accountability for a school district. Without the special education legal knowledge from primary legal sources needed to make prudent education decisions, school districts are vulnerable to legal challenges. Too often, educators provide services to special education students without critical knowledge of the educators' role in the special education legal process.

In this study, just the preliminary phase of constructing a special education law World Wide Web (W3) site for Illinois educators was considered. There were two objectives in this study. The first objective was …

Predictors Of Jurors' Decisions And Post-Trial Perceptions Of Child Witness Credibility In A Child Sexual Assault Trial, Janet Murvin Gibson

Masters Theses

The effect of judge’s instructions and jurors’ preconceptions about children’s credibility on juror decision making and post-trial perceptions of children’s credibility was investigated. Also, the relationship between jurors’ post-trial perceptions of children’s credibility and measure of guilt was explored. Jurors’ level of authoritarianism was utilized as a covariate and jurors’ comprehension of the judge’s instructions was considered as a possible mediating influence on their decision making. One hundred and twenty five undergraduate women enrolled in psychology classes at Eastern Illinois University viewed a videotaped simulation of a child sexual assault trial. Participants heard either standard instructions in which the judge …

Trade Friction Between The United States And Japan: An Analysis Of The Situation In 1992, Mariko Hirano

Masters Theses

Trade friction between the United States and Japan is discussed and it is shown why negotiations like Structural Impediments Initiative Talks alone have not improved the trade relations between the two countries. This is not only because of fundamental cultural and economic differences, but because of significant differences in the interests of Japanese business, Japanese government, American business, and American government. The Japanese political system is described. A detailed description of Japanese conglomerated system (keiretsu) is presented. This conglomerate system is often viewed as a major obstacle by foreign companies to do business in Japan. The views of American politicians …

Judicial Decision Making And Public Opinion In The Warren And Burger Courts, Nancy L. Siemion Apr 1993

Judicial Decision Making And Public Opinion In The Warren And Burger Courts, Nancy L. Siemion

Masters Theses

For many scholars, the Warren Court is the epitome of antimajoritarian policy making since many of the Court's decisions overturned legislation passed by Representatives of the people. By examining nationwide public opinion polls in that era that ask the public their thoughts about particular issues the Warren Court has ruled on, it is evident that most of these rulings were truly majoritarian and received public approval. In addition, this thesis analyzes some recent studies that discern national attitudes with respect to government policy making (public mood), assessing congruity or incongruity between the Court's liberalism and public policy mood which provides …

The Regular Education Initiative In Light Of Selected State And Federal Court Decisions, Frederick C. Kubicek Jan 1993

The Regular Education Initiative In Light Of Selected State And Federal Court Decisions, Frederick C. Kubicek

Masters Theses

This study begins with a general categorization of the various positions which comprise the ‘Regular Education Initiative.’ The first of these three categories, entitled the 'Little Change' model, calls for the least number of changes within the current delivery system of special education services. The second, the 'Extreme change' model, calls for the total dismantling of the present 'dual delivery' system. The third general heading is that of the 'Moderate change' model. This position calls for a substantial reduction in the number of students being served by 'pull out' programs. These three positions were then analyzed in light of twenty …

The 1973 Oil Embargo Arab Oil Diplomacy, Amal Mustafa Shamma

Masters Theses

The Arab oil producing countries, following years of a stalemate in the Arab-Israeli dispute,- decided to put their oil resource in the service of the Arab cause using it as an instrument of pressure against the West. Their objective was to induce a change in the Western world Middle East policy and to work toward achieving a lasting and peaceful solution for the Arab-Israeli problem.

The purpose of this thesis is to show that the application of Arab oil diplomacy has been effective into producing a more even handed policy in the area, and into breaking the deadlock in the …

The United States And China: From Noncommunication To Diplomatic Relations, Mary Jeanne Patrick

Masters Theses

After more than two decades of fundamental differences due to lack of direct diplomatic relations, the People's Republic of China and the United States are developing a harmonious working relationship. Friendly relations between these two major nations began to improve in 1972 during President Richard Nixon's visit to China that had been arranged by Henry Kissinger, Assistant for National Security Affairs.

The purpose of this thesis is to show that nations can overcome their negative stereotyped images with one another when their leaders will enter into effective communication.

The Utilization Of Artillery And Mortars As Infantry Support Weapons In The Chaco War, Charles John Goodall Jun 1965

The Utilization Of Artillery And Mortars As Infantry Support Weapons In The Chaco War, Charles John Goodall

Masters Theses

I. The Background of the Conflict

In the summer of 1932, while the world's attention was focused upon Japanese aggression in Manchuria, a border skirmish in the upper reaches of the Plata valley ignited a conflict which could not be extinguished by the good offices of the Pan-American Union or the peace-making machinery of the League of Nations. The prize in question, nearly one hundred and fifty thousand square miles of savanna and swamp, would be minuscule in comparison with the territorial acquisitions of the dictators of that era, but to the two politically unstable and highly nationalistic nations contesting …

The Road To Murfreesboro: The Eleventh Michigan Volunteer Infantry From Organization Through Its First Battle, Wayne C. Mann Jun 1963

The Road To Murfreesboro: The Eleventh Michigan Volunteer Infantry From Organization Through Its First Battle, Wayne C. Mann

Masters Theses

Introduction

This is a history of the Eleventh Michigan Volunteer Infantry. It was never a famous regiment; it never did much out of the ordinary, and participated in few major battles. If three is anything to distinguish this regiment, it is that it is not distinguished. What happened to the Eleventh Michigan happened to countless other regiments both North and South. In a sense a study of one regiment provides a study of all.

The Eleventh tried to be different. It almost caught John Hunt Morgan in Kentucky. At Murfreesboro it made a desperate charge to retake the Cedars. It …

An Examination And Analysis Of Current Supervisory Development Programs In Municipal Police Departments, Stanley W. Kelley May 1963

An Examination And Analysis Of Current Supervisory Development Programs In Municipal Police Departments, Stanley W. Kelley

Masters Theses

Introduction

The modern policeman has one of the most complex and heterogeneous jobs to perform in our society. He is expected to be a combination of several specialists, each one requiring a high degree of competency and special skills. He is required to be a social case worker when dealing with juveniles, a psychologist when handling psychopaths, and a doctor when working accident patrol. He needs to be a methodical chemist when conducting criminal investigations and a congenial public relations man when working on traffic control.

Can such a jack-of-all-trades possibly be a master of any? It is true that …
