The Global Preclinical Antibacterial Pipeline, Kevin Outterson

Antibacterial resistance is a great concern and requires global action. A critical question is whether enough new antibacterial drugs are being discovered and developed. A review of the clinical antibacterial drug pipeline was recently published, but comprehensive information about the global preclinical pipeline is unavailable. This Review focuses on discovery and preclinical development projects and has found, as of 1 May 2019, 407 antibacterial projects from 314 institutions. The focus is on Gram-negative pathogens, particularly bacteria on the WHO priority bacteria list. This article celebrates the 25th anniversary of the publication of Gary Bellow and Bea Moulton's The Lawyering Process by looking at the work from personal and theoretical perspectives. From the personal perspective, the authors discuss how The Lawyering Process influenced them as teachers and scholars. From the theoretical perspective, the authors show how the book modeled various metacognitive processes. Combining the personal with the theoretical, the article shows how The Lawyering Process challenged lawyers to be-come aware of their own thinking by demonstrating how it challenged the authors to do so.
