Taking The Politics Out Of Vaccines: Increasing Vaccination Rates Without Repealing Exemptions, Kylie A. Thompson

Vaccinations have become a vital part of disease prevention and public health; however, they remain a controversial topic in our society today. Non-medical exemptions to mandatory vaccination laws are the core of most of the controversy surrounding vaccinations. This Comment examines the controversy surrounding vaccinations and proposes interventions communities can adopt to increase vaccination rates without repealing non-medical exemptions to mandatory vaccination laws.

Data Battles, Platform Shutdowns, And Digital Rights In Surveillance: Labor Politics In The Online Sex Industry, Winifred R. Poster

Sex workers are often portrayed as groups with little authority over their jobs. But lately they are making much use of online spaces, both large scale public-facing platforms and their own smaller websites. Taking a deeper ethnographic look into their online activities, I recount a story of highly adept, technologically proficient, and expert digital navigation by sex workers online.
The analysis follows the trajectory of platforms in the online sex industry over the last two decades. First it charts the rise of platforms for matching, reviewing, and identity verification, many of which developed roughly around the 2000s, and their impact …

Angela Koenig of Lemay worries about her diabetic son Kyle all the time. Medicaid dropped Koenig from its rolls in November 1997. She took a new job a few months later as a bill collector for MCI in Earth City. But she can’t afford to pay $320 a month for family health insurance coverage. Koenig, son Kyle, 6, and her daughter Emalee, 2, are without insurance for the first time. “What if he rides his bike and falls and breaks his arm?” asked Koenig, 23. “We really need insurance.”[1]
