Simulated Problem-Based Learning: Teaching International Law In Exciting Way, Nik Nor Suhaida Ali
Indonesian Journal of International Law
This research aimed to discuss the methods for teaching International Law to non-law students. The subject was offered to second and third-year students of the International Affairs Management program at the School of International Studies, Universiti Utara Malaysia. Since the subject required higher-order thinking skills, it was introduced with Simulated Problem-Based Learning (SPBL), which combines role-playing simulation and problem-based learning (PBL). In western universities, simulations, PBL, and role-playing were popular methods in teaching International Law and International Relations. The methods were shown to improve learning skills but were rarely used in teaching International Law in International Relations programs in Malaysia. …

An Access And Equity Ranking Of Public Law Schools, Christopher L. Mathis
An Access And Equity Ranking Of Public Law Schools, Christopher L. Mathis
Grantee Research
Over the past few decades, several comprehensive ranking systems, including the influential U.S. News and World Report’s Best Law Schools rankings, have emerged to provide useful information to prospective law students seeking to enroll in law school. These ranking systems have defined what is measured as “quality” and what outcomes law schools focus on to gain a better position in the ranking. These rankings fail to measure what many law schools claim to be one of their longstanding goals—diversity, access, and equity.
One of the problematic and shocking reasons U.S. News cites for not including diversity measures in the …

“The Times They Are A-Changin’:” A Dedication To The Past, Present, And Future Of Mercer Law Review, Cathy Cox
Mercer Law Review
Longtime readers of Mercer Law Review’s Annual Survey of Georgia Law likely know that Mercer Law School is steeped in history. It is the first American Bar Association-accredited law school in the state of Georgia, having earned that distinction in 1925—more than fifty years after the law school was actually founded in 1873. In the same vein, the Mercer Law Review was founded in 1949 and remains the oldest continuously-published law journal in Georgia.
When I became a student at Mercer Law School, I knew little about Mercer Law’s history or heritage, or for that matter, about lawyers or law …

American Voter Turnout: The Influence Of Education Levels On Voter Participation, Jack Thomas Bunzel-Hardie
Student Scholar Symposium Abstracts and Posters
This study is intended to explore the relevant relationship between mistrust in government officials and voter turnout. Within a research article such as this, it is important to distinguish the dependent and independent factors from one another so as not to get them confused. This article identifies the growing sense of mistrust that many Americans feel towards their government officials as the independent factor while examining the relationship that voter turnout has with that growing fear, therefore making that the dependent variable. While this issue has been studied in the past there have been many new events taking place and …

Dean’S Desk: The Iu Maurer School Of Law And The Indiana Supreme Court, Christiana Ochoa
Christiana Ochoa (7/22-10/22 Acting; 11/2022-)
On Nov. 1, my first day as the 17th dean of the Indiana University Maurer School of Law, I attended the robing ceremony for Derek Molter, Indiana’s 111th Supreme Court justice. This public ceremony was an opportunity for those in attendance to celebrate Justice Molter’s formal swearing in, which had occurred privately on Sept. 1. For the IU Maurer School of Law, it was also an opportunity to celebrate Justice Molter joining three other IU Maurer alumni on the five-person court.
Established in 1816, the court precedes our law school by about 30 years. Still, for most of Indiana’s history, …

Assessing A Cooperative Writing Process In An Undergraduate Legal Writing Course, James A. Croft
Assessing A Cooperative Writing Process In An Undergraduate Legal Writing Course, James A. Croft
St. John's Law Review
(Excerpt)
I teach legal writing to undergraduate students, and I primarily do so by cooperatively writing with them, using instructional time to work through the students’ writing assignments as a class. I arrived at this process organically over several years. When I first started teaching, I was surprised by the disconnect between my expectations regarding student writing and student performance. To attempt to close that gap, I began going through parts of the research and writing process cooperatively with my students in class, and increasing the amount of work that we did together each semester until, in the semester assessed …

Marianist Law Schools: Demonstrating The Courage To Be Catholic, David A. Grenardo
Marianist Law Schools: Demonstrating The Courage To Be Catholic, David A. Grenardo
Journal of Catholic Legal Studies
(Excerpt)
Only two Marianist law schools exist in the United States. Both University of Dayton School of Law (UDSL) and St. Mary’s University School of Law (St. Mary’s Law School) proudly embrace their Catholic and Marianist traditions in promoting their schools. For instance, St. Mary’s Law School, the only Catholic law school in Texas, openly advertises its commitment to welcome and serve “students of all faiths and uphold the Marianist tradition of hospitality, openness and the family spirit.” Similarly, UDSL’s online published materials state unequivocally: “In the Catholic, Marianist spirit, many of our students participate in pro bono activities and …

'I Really Love This Law School': Q&A With New Iu Maurer Dean Ochoa, Jordan Morey
Christiana Ochoa (7/22-10/22 Acting; 11/2022-)
Displayed throughout Christiana Ochoa’s office are sentimental photos and items she’s collected from across the globe, but the most eye-catching print is propped behind her desk.
The new Indiana University Maurer School of Law dean has a red, blue and beige poster prominently displayed in her headquarters, depicting a Latina woman with a Mona Lisa-esque smile and a rose in her hair with the words, “WE THE PEOPLE — DEFEND DIGNITY,” typed across the bottom.
“To me, it’s a great piece of art with a Latino woman who clearly is confident, and confident in her belief that we are a …
