Integration Of Infrared Thermography And Deep Learning For Real-Time In-Situ Defect Detection And Rapid Elimination Of Defect Propagation In Material Extrusion, Asef Ishraq Sadaf

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This study presents a novel approach to overcoming process reliability challenges in Material Extrusion (ME), a prominent additive manufacturing (AM) technique. Despite ME's advantages in cost, versatility, and rapid prototyping, it faces significant barriers to commercial-scale production, primarily due to quality issues such as overextrusion and underextrusion, which compromise final part performance. Traditional manual monitoring methods severely lack the capability to efficiently detect these defects and highlight the necessity for an efficient and real-time monitoring solution. Considering these challenges, an innovative and field-deployable infrared thermography-based in-situ real-time defect detection and feedback control system is proposed in this thesis. A novel …

Utilizing Shockwave Theory And Deep Learning To Estimate Intersection Traffic Flow And Queue Length Based On Connected Vehicle Data., Abdulmaged Algomaiah May 2022

Utilizing Shockwave Theory And Deep Learning To Estimate Intersection Traffic Flow And Queue Length Based On Connected Vehicle Data., Abdulmaged Algomaiah

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The development of Connected Vehicles (CV) facilitates the use of trajectory data to estimate queue length and traffic volume at signalized intersections. The previously proposed models involved additional information that may require conducting different types of data collection. Also, most models need higher market penetration rate or more than a vehicle per cycle to provide adequate estimation. This is mainly because a significant number of the estimation models utilized only queued vehicles. However, the state of motion in non-queued vehicles, particularly slowed-down vehicles, provides much information about the traffic characteristics. There is a lack of exploiting the information from slowed-down …

Skincan Ai: A Deep Learning-Based Skin Cancer Classification And Segmentation Pipeline Designed Along With A Generative Model, Shivang Rana Jan 2022

Skincan Ai: A Deep Learning-Based Skin Cancer Classification And Segmentation Pipeline Designed Along With A Generative Model, Shivang Rana

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The rarity of Melanoma skin cancer accounts for the dataset collected to be limited and highly skewed, as benign moles can easily mimic the impression of the melanoma-affected area. Such an imbalanced dataset makes training any deep learning classifier network harder by affecting the training stability. We have an intuition that synthesizing such skin lesion medical images could help solve the issue of overfitting in training networks and assist in enforcing the anonymization of actual patients. Despite multiple previous attempts, none of the models were practical for the fast-paced clinical environment. In this thesis, we propose a novel pipeline named …

Applying Artificial Intelligence To Medical Data, Shaikh Shiam Rahman

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Machine learning, data mining, and deep learning has become the methodology of choice for analyzing medical data and images. In this study, we implemented three different machine learning techniques to medical data and image analysis. Our first study was to implement different log base entropy for a decision tree algorithm. Our results suggested that using a higher log base for the dataset with mostly categorical attributes with three or more categories for each attribute can obtain a higher accuracy. For the second study, we analyzed mental health data tuning the parameters of the decision tree (splitting method, depth and entropy). …

Smart Distributed Generation System Event Classification Using Recurrent Neural Network-Based Long Short-Term Memory, Shuva Das

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

High penetration of distributed generation (DG) sources into a decentralized power system causes several disturbances, making the monitoring and operation control of the system complicated. Moreover, because of being passive, modern DG systems are unable to detect and inform about these disturbances related to power quality in an intelligent approach. This paper proposed an intelligent and novel technique, capable of making real-time decisions on the occurrence of different DG events such as islanding, capacitor switching, unsymmetrical faults, load switching, and loss of parallel feeder and distinguishing these events from the normal mode of operation. This event classification technique was designed …

In both supervised and unsupervised learning settings, deep neural networks (DNNs) are known to perform hierarchical and discriminative representation of data. They are capable of automatically extracting excellent hierarchy of features from raw data without the need for manual feature engineering. Over the past few years, the general trend has been that DNNs have grown deeper and larger, amounting to huge number of final parameters and highly nonlinear cascade of features, thus improving the flexibility and accuracy of resulting models. In order to account for the scale, diversity and the difficulty of data DNNs learn from, the architectural complexity and …

A Deep Learning Approach To Detect Diabetic Retinopathy In Fundus Images., Winston R. Furtado

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Background: Diabetic retinopathy is a disease caused due by complications of diabetes mellitus which can lead to blindness. About 33% of the US population with diabetes also show symptoms for diabetes retinopathy. If not treated, diabetic retinopathy worsens over time by progressing through two main pathological stages of non-proliferative and proliferative and four clinical stages. While the diagnostic accuracy of detecting diabetic retinopathy through machine learning have shown to be successful for OCT images, the accuracy of ultra-widefield fundus images have yet to be fully reported. This paper describes a method to non-invasively detect and diagnose diabetic retinopathy from ultra-widefield …

Over the past two decades, a circular form of RNA (circular RNA) produced from splicing mechanism has become the focus of scientific studies due to its major role as a microRNA (miR) ac tivity modulator and its association with various diseases including cancer. Therefore, the detection of circular RNAs is a vital operation for continued comprehension of their biogenesis and purpose. Prediction of circular RNA can be achieved by first distinguishing non-coding RNAs from protein coding gene transcripts, separating short and long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), and finally pre dicting circular RNAs from other lncRNAs. However, available tools to distinguish circular …

A Non-Invasive Diagnostic System For Early Assessment Of Acute Renal Transplant Rejection., Mohamed Nazih Mohamed Ibrahim Shehata Aug 2016

A Non-Invasive Diagnostic System For Early Assessment Of Acute Renal Transplant Rejection., Mohamed Nazih Mohamed Ibrahim Shehata

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Early diagnosis of acute renal transplant rejection (ARTR) is of immense importance for appropriate therapeutic treatment administration. Although the current diagnostic technique is based on renal biopsy, it is not preferred due to its invasiveness, recovery time (1-2 weeks), and potential for complications, e.g., bleeding and/or infection. In this thesis, a computer-aided diagnostic (CAD) system for early detection of ARTR from 4D (3D + b-value) diffusion-weighted (DW) MRI data is developed. The CAD process starts from a 3D B-spline-based data alignment (to handle local deviations due to breathing and heart beat) and kidney tissue segmentation with an evolving geometric (level-set-based) …
