The Senior Design CSL Behring Plasma Bottle Automation Design team is attempting to automate the process of plasma bottle scanning and loading plasma bottles into water channels. Currently, this process is performed manually though trained, hired technicians. This leads to the potential of human error, reduces the overall efficiency of the process, and requires the attention of several operators. The goal is to minimize operator interactions, reducing cost and errors while increasing efficiency. We are proposing a design solution that automatically handles the scanning and loading processes. The Millipore Sigma-Kankakee Site uses high volumes of water for many operations. One operation utilizes approximately 3600 L of water per batch every couple days and more than 3.8MM liters of water per year. The water is utilized as a component of the buffer washes used in the extraction process for cholesterol that involves various other components such as silica and ions such as sodium, sulfur, and phosphate. The washes that go through the process involve these components and large amounts of water that are then drained out of the facility. This volume is roughly 7% of the site's total …
