With external optical feedback (EOF), a laser diode (LD) can operate at different dynamic states. In this work, an LD with EOF is set at period-one (P1) oscillation state to generate microwave photonic (MWP) signal for sensing. Firstly, the P1 state boundary of the LD is determined and then the influence of the LD controllable parameters on the boundary is studied by solving the well-known Lang-Kobayashi equations. A set of parameters selection rule for designing an LD based MWP sensing system is obtained. This article surveys computational methods for posterior inference with intractable likelihoods, that is where the likelihood function is unavailable in closed form, or where evaluation of the likelihood is infeasible. We review recent developments in pseudo-marginal methods, approximate Bayesian computation (ABC), the exchange algorithm, thermodynamic integration, and composite likelihood, paying particular attention to advancements in scalability for large datasets. We also mention R and MATLAB source code for implementations of these algorithms, where they are available.

However, there are many groupoids which are not topologically principal, yet their (twisted) C⁎-algebras admit Cartan subalgebras. Erosion-corrosion experiments were performed in environments of CO2 and CO2-O2, respectively. This study systematically investigated the impacts of calcium nitrite addition on the mechanical properties and biofilm communities of concrete-based wastewater infrastructures using sulfate resistant cement through standard tests and DNA sequencing, respectively. The results revealed that setting time and water demand for normal consistency were reduced, but slump, drying shrinkage, and apparent volume of permeable voids increased with calcium nitrite dosage up to 4% weight of cement. The cumulative leached fraction of nitrite, 28-day compressive strength and biofilm communities were not significantly affected by calcium nitrite dosages. The addition of calcium nitrite into concrete is environmentally friendly to wastewater infrastructures.

This paper is concerned with the equivalent static force method for the seismic design of selective storage racks with uplifting baseplates. It proposes a new procedure for determining the effective natural period of such racks in the cross-aisle direction for use in the NZS 1170.5 equivalent static method. The procedure is derived by comparing the base shear results of trialled Rayleigh methods against nonlinear time history analysis results involving 15 upright frame configurations, comprising 5 baseplate types for three, five and seven level racks. Self-interference (SI) cancellation for full-duplex (FD) multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems is challenging due to both hardware and signal processing complexity. In this paper, a beam-based adaptive filter structure with analog least mean square (ALMS) loops is proposed to significantly reduce the complexity of SI cancellation for FD MIMO systems. This paper presents a study on the deformation and degradation responses of railway ballast using large-scale laboratory testing and computational modeling approaches. A series of large-scale triaxial tests were carried out to investigate the ballast breakage responses under cyclic train loading subjected to varying frequencies, f=10-40  Hz. The role of recycled rubber energy-absorbing mats (REAMs) on reducing ballast breakage was also examined. Laboratory test results show that the ballast experiences significant degradation (breakage) and deformation, while the inclusion of REAMs can reduce the ballast breakage up to about 35%. The realization of a fully integrated group IV electrically driven laser at room temperature is an essential issue to be solved. We introduced a novel group IV side-emitting laser at a wavelength of 1550 nm based on a 3-layer Ge/Si quantum well (QW). By designing this scheme, we showed that the structural, electronic, and optical properties are excited for lasing at 1550 nm. © 2020 Classification of HEp-2 cell patterns plays a significant role in the indirect immunofluorescence test for identifying autoimmune diseases in the human body. Many automatic HEp-2 cell classification methods have been proposed in recent years, amongst which deep learning based methods have shown impressive performance. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the existing deep learning based HEp-2 cell image classification methods. These methods perform HEp-2 image classification at two levels, namely, cell-level and specimen-level. Both levels are covered in this review. In this study, we develop a semi-analytic method to evaluate American options under a two-state regime-switching economy. The two free boundaries corresponding to the states divide the pricing domain into two regions: a common continuation region and a transition region. Non-linear partial differential equation (PDE) systems are derived under the Black-Scholes framework for each region. The Laplace transform method is used to solve the PDE systems. Equations for determining the optimal exercise prices are obtained analytically and solved numerically in the Laplace space. A typical fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP)-concrete-steel double-skin tubular column (DSTC) consists of an FRP outer tube, a hollow steel inner tube and an annular concrete in-fill in between. Gold nanoparticles have demonstrated significant radiosensitization of cancer treatment with x-ray radiotherapy. To understand the mechanisms at the basis of nanoparticle radiosensitization, Monte Carlo simulations are used to investigate the dose enhancement, given a certain nanoparticle concentration and distribution in the biological medium. Earlier studies have ordinarily used condensed history physics models to predict nanoscale dose enhancement with nanoparticles. This study uses Geant4-DNA complemented with novel track structure physics models to accurately describe electron interactions in gold and to calculate the dose surrounding gold nanoparticle structures at nanoscale level. Background:

The clinical utility of measuring pressure at the prosthetic socket-residual limb interface is currently unknown.

Objectives:

This study aimed to identify whether measuring interface pressure during prosthetic design and fabrication results in closer agreement in pressure measurements between sockets made by different clinicians, and a reduction in pressure over areas of concern. It also investigated whether clinicians value knowing the interface pressure during the fabrication process.

Study design:

Mixed methods.
