Safety Standards Must Be Met For Fire Fighting In Educational Workshops In Industrial Secondary Schools In The Arab Republic Of Egypt, Ibrahim Mahmoud Hassan, Wael Ahmed Rady, Walid Mahmoud El-Nahas

Emirates Journal for Engineering Research

The aim of the research is to establish safety standards for fire fighting within educational workshops in industrial secondary schools to determine the structural requirements for designing workshops in educational buildings and meet international standards. To achieve this a questionnaire was made and data collected for analysis and hypothesis testing using the statistical package of social Sciences (SPSS). Through the adoption of a number of different statistical methods and after conducting the analysis of research data and testing its hypotheses find a number of results, most importantly that the standards conform to international and local standards . The results also …

Failure Mode Identification Of Masonry Infilled Rc Frames, Rabab Allouzi, Ayhan Irfanoglu

Emirates Journal for Engineering Research

This paper presents a new method to identify the ultimate failure mode of reinforced concrete (RC) frames due to the presence of masonry infill walls. The proposed method is based on simple geometry, reinforcement ratios and material properties of the elements involved in the frame-wall assembly. A simple engineering tool, expressed in terms of infill wall-to-RC frame stiffness and strength ratios, is developed to estimate whether the ultimate failure mode that would evolve during strong earthquake ground shaking in the infilled RC frame is brittle or ductile. The brittle failure mode, that is, shear failure in columns, should be avoided …
