Various studies had covered a number of major areas and sectors (Mehalla) in Basrah describing its major roads building methods and characteristics of traditional and contemporary buildings. They also cover the rivers passing through the city and the canals where bridge from a strong link between the parts. These rivers and canals formed a significant element in the city formation.
