"Being Mindful" And Becoming A "Harmony Worker" During Unsettling Times.Docx

Carroy U "Cuf" Ferguson, Ph.D.

Let us be mindful of our individual and collective past in order to learn what works and does not work for our individual and collective Well Being.
Let us seek and find ways to experience Joy as a way "to be" in the present for our individual and collective Well Being.
And, let us create and implement Visions for evolving our consciousness in ways that can sustain our individual and collective Well Being.

Shining A Humanistic Light On Racism.Docx

Carroy U "Cuf" Ferguson, Ph.D.

On July 14, 2019, race-linked tweets, filled with racially charged negative rhetoric, began to emerge for a country, the United States, to grapple once more with its past, present, and future.  The tweets were directed toward four duly elected women of color in Congress.  In this light, the phenomenon of racism, yet again, was abruptly made more overt, rather than covert.  Indeed, it is fair to say that the phenomenon of racism is often an "unconscious or veiled phenomenon" for some.

The human race has evolved, grown and expanded through the exploration of Earth. After initial steps on the Moon, our next challenge is to explore the solar system. Mars shows potential for both scientific discovery and future human settlement, and so is a prime candidate for the next leap of human exploration. Such a bold endeavor will be a driver for an unprecedented worldwide cooperative effort and the catalyst for a new era of international, intercultural and interdisciplinary human relations. Scientific and technological progress will also accelerate as mankind is ushered into a new era of space exploration.

Reimagining Icarus: Ethics, Law And Policy Considerations For Commercial Human Spaceflight, Sara M. Langston May 2019

Reimagining Icarus: Ethics, Law And Policy Considerations For Commercial Human Spaceflight, Sara M. Langston

Sara Langston

Commercial human spaceflight presents an area for engaging novel human activity and objectives, to include space exploration, entertainment, transportation and extraterrestrial resource acquisition. The inherent dangers and lack of scientific and medical certainty involved however raise interrelated questions of ethics, bioethics, law and public policy. This is particularly the case with spaceflight participant (SFP) screening, selection, and commercial human spaceflight activities where regulations are currently silent or lacking. In the absence of established law, ethics can play an important role by informing industry standards, policies and best practices. Understanding the fundamental ethical values at stake in the application of new …

Should Robots Prosecute And Defend?, Stephen E. Henderson

Even when we achieve the ‘holy grail’ of artificial intelligence—machine intelligence that is at least as smart as a human being in every area of thought—there may be classes of decisions for which it is intrinsically important to retain a human in the loop. On the common account of American criminal adjudication, the role of prosecutor seems to include such decisions given the largely unreviewable declination authority, whereas the role of defense counsel would seem fully susceptible of automation. And even for the prosecutor, the benefits of automation might outweigh the intrinsic decision-making loss, given that the ultimate decision—by judge …
