Power-Aware Planning And Design For Next Generation Wireless Networks, Chenfei Gao Dec 2015

Power-Aware Planning And Design For Next Generation Wireless Networks, Chenfei Gao

Dissertations - ALL

Mobile network operators have witnessed a transition from being voice dominated to video/data domination, which leads to a dramatic traffic growth over the past decade. With the 4G wireless communication systems being deployed in the world most recently, the fifth generation (5G) mobile and wireless communica- tion technologies are emerging into research fields. The fast growing data traffic volume and dramatic expansion of network infrastructures will inevitably trigger tremendous escalation of energy consumption in wireless networks, which will re- sult in the increase of greenhouse gas emission and pose ever increasing urgency on the environmental protection and sustainable network development. …

10 W Dc-Dc Converter Based Led Driver Circuit Design, Ö. Faruk Farsakoğlu, H. Yusuf Hasrici, Ibrahim Çelik Nov 2015

10 W Dc-Dc Converter Based Led Driver Circuit Design, Ö. Faruk Farsakoğlu, H. Yusuf Hasrici, Ibrahim Çelik

UBT International Conference

Considering the total amount of energy consumed in the world, energy used in lighting is of utmost importance. For this reason, systems used in lighting should be energy efficient, and mıre efficient lighting elements should be preferred. LED, as a solid-state lighting system, is more energy efficient than the lighting systems with conventional lighting elements. Some of the LEDs used in solid-state lighting systems are named as standard 5mm LEDs and power LEDs. Because power LEDs have more light efficiency than standard 5 mm LEDs, they are produced as an alternative to conventional light sources. Power LEDs draw much more …

Understanding Residential Electricity Consumption Considering Energy Efficiency Policies And The Impact On The Electricity System, Meryem Nur Morgül Tumbaz, Hatice Tekiner Muğlkoç Nov 2015

Understanding Residential Electricity Consumption Considering Energy Efficiency Policies And The Impact On The Electricity System, Meryem Nur Morgül Tumbaz, Hatice Tekiner Muğlkoç

UBT International Conference

Electricity consumption increases substantially over the years where residential use significantly contributes to the overall consumption. The growth in the population and variety of home appliances together with increasing comfort levels of the people results in higher levels of residential electricity use. In fact, nearly one fourth of Turkey's total electricity consumption is due to the domestic use. To achieve global sustainability targets and reduce the overall electricity use, focusing on the domestic consumption is crucial. In this research, the energy consumptions patterns of households are determined to identify the potential electricity savings existing in the residential sector. Moreover, specific …

Investigation Of Ultrasonics As A Tool For Energy Efficient Recycling Of Lactic Acid From Postconsumer Pla Products, Gowrishankar Srinivasan Sep 2015

Investigation Of Ultrasonics As A Tool For Energy Efficient Recycling Of Lactic Acid From Postconsumer Pla Products, Gowrishankar Srinivasan

Gowrishankar Srinivasan

The growing use of "ecofriendly," biodegradable polymers have created a need for a suitable recycling technique because, unlike petroleum derived plastics, their properties deteriorate during conventional recycling. These new techniques must be cost efficient and yield material properties same as virgin polymer. This research investigates the effectiveness of high-power ultrasonics as an efficient technique to recover lactic acid from postconsumer polylactic acid (PLA) products. Polylactic acid is a commercially available bioplastic derived from corn starch and/or sugar cane that is biorenewable and compostable (biodegradable). The various ongoing researches to recover lactic acid from PLA employ a common platform of high …

Exploitation Of Data Correlation And Performance Enhancement In Wireless Sensor Networks, Tianqi Yu Aug 2015

Exploitation Of Data Correlation And Performance Enhancement In Wireless Sensor Networks, Tianqi Yu

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

With the combination of wireless communications and embedded system, lots of progress has been made in the area of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). The networks have already been widely deployed, due to their self-organization capacity and low-cost advantage. However, there are still some technical challenges needed to be addressed. In the thesis, three algorithms are proposed in improving network energy efficiency, detecting data fault and reducing data redundancy.

The basic principle behind the proposed algorithms is correlation in the data collected by WSNs. The first sensor scheduling algorithm is based on the spatial correlation between neighbor sensor readings. Given the …

Smart Thermostat, Matt Allen, Sam Billett, Kevin Read Jun 2015

Smart Thermostat, Matt Allen, Sam Billett, Kevin Read

Electrical and Computer Engineering Senior Theses

The current thermostat marketplace is dominated by programmable thermostats that are engineered to give the user as much control as possible. However, not all users program these thermostats optimally. Some prefer comfort over energy efficiency and will heat an empty house. Others do not care to program their thermostat and leave it at a set temperature. The Smart Thermostat that we have created is engineered to optimize the temperature for the user, using the common sense of the engineer to lower energy consumption. It uses a Raspberry Pi as a platform to implement a fuzzy logic control System. By removing …

The Impact Of Roofing Material On Building Energy Performance, Ali Badiee Jan 2015

The Impact Of Roofing Material On Building Energy Performance, Ali Badiee

All ETDs from UAB

The last decade has seen an increase in the efficient use of energy sources such as water, electricity, and natural gas as well as a variety of roofing materials, in the heating and cooling of both residential and commercial infrastructure. Oil costs, coal and natural gas prices remain high and unstable. All of these instabilities and increased costs have resulted in higher heating and cooling costs, and engineers are making an effort to keep them under control by using energy efficient building materials. The building envelope (that which separates the indoor and outdoor environments of a building) plays a significant …

Amorphous Core Transformers Efficiency Analysis In Turkish Electrical Distribution Systems, Fati̇h Işik, Yilmaz Uyaroğlu Jan 2015

Amorphous Core Transformers Efficiency Analysis In Turkish Electrical Distribution Systems, Fati̇h Işik, Yilmaz Uyaroğlu

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Transformers are an indispensable element in the transmission and distribution of electricity. While they are highly efficient, the increasing global demand for electrical energy has prompted efforts to improve their performance. No-load power losses constitute the majority of total losses within electrical energy distribution, especially when looking at load ratio. In recent years, some studies have found that no-load power losses of amorphous core transformers are less than those of laminated steel core transformers by as much as 60{\%} to 70{\%}. For this paper, we have manufactured an amorphous distribution transformer prototype rated 33 kV and 1 MVA. By quantifying …

Product Parameters Optimization For Double Purge Of C-Magma Integrated With Conventional Three-Boiling Crystallization Scheme To Improve Raw Sugar Whole Color, Luz Stella Polanco Jan 2015

Product Parameters Optimization For Double Purge Of C-Magma Integrated With Conventional Three-Boiling Crystallization Scheme To Improve Raw Sugar Whole Color, Luz Stella Polanco

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Efficient crystallization in raw sugar production is the result of a combination of factors and responses that meet specific criteria. Matching a sugar quality standard, maximizing sugar yield, maximizing crystallization equipment capacity and minimizing heat requirement are all necessary optimization criteria. A double centrifugation or purge of C-magma is intended to improve raw sugar whole color by the reduction of color recirculation with the sugar crystal. Combining a three boiling crystallization scheme with a second centrifugation after the last crystallization stage required optimizing the input/output product parameters (purities) and the location of the liquid recycle component (double purge molasses) for …
