This study describes an experimental study on the interlaminar Mode-I fracture toughness behavior of hand lay-up plain-weave woven GFRP laminate by using a fracture energy method of evaluation. Mode-I double cantilever beam (DCB) tests were performed on woven GFRP unsaturated polyester composite, E-Glass EWR 600 NISER, specimens. The specimen design and test procedure are performed with reference to the BS ISO 15024 and ASTM D5528. Various curing uniform pressure distribution has been investigated at 35.8kg/m2, 70.1kg/m2, 104kg/m2 and 138.2kg/m2, with respect to the toughness value. The lay-up laminates designed with symmetrical arrangement at the center-plane of the composite are also …

A new simple method for measuring complex permittivity of substantially lossy composite materials is presented. In this method, a sample of the material under study should completely fill in the cross-section of the single-mode transmission line (waveguide), and the length of the sample must be an integer of a half-wavelength in the waveguide filled with this material. The oscillator frequency is swept linearly, the minima of the reflection coefficient are measured, and then analytical formulas are used to calculate real and imaginary parts of permittivity. The method was tested on magneto- dielectric samples containing hexagonal ferrite powders, as well on …

Structured zeolite/silicon carbide composites were succesfully synthesized by ZSM-5 coatings deposited on macroscopic â-SiC foams with medium surface area. A homogeneous coverage of the support (30 wt % zeolite) by ZSM-5 crystals, having 1 ím average size, was reached after a double-coating procedure. The ZSM-5/â-SiC composite materials were characterized by BET, XRD, SEM, and H/D exchange methods. 27Al MAS NMR analysis revealed that all aluminum was present in a tetrahedral coordination, thus sitting in the zeolite framework. The existence of a nanoscopic layer of silica and silicon oxycarbide on the surface of the support ensures the strong anchoring of the …

An aircraft is subjected to severe structural and aerodynamic loads during its service life. These loads can cause damage or weakening of the structure especially for aging military and civilian aircraft, thereby affecting its load carrying capabilities. Hence composite patch repairs are increasingly used to repair damaged aircraft metallic structures to restore its structural efficiency. This paper presents the results of Acoustic Emission (AE) monitoring of crack propagation in 2024-T3 Clad aluminum panels repaired with adhesively bonded octagonal, single sided boron/epoxy composite patch under tension-tension fatigue loading. Crack propagation gages were used to monitor crack initiation. The identified AE sensor …
