An Independent Evaluation Of Information Systems Support Of The Joint Forces Air Component Commander Concept Of Operations, Gregory R. Kincaid, Richard A. Poligala
Theses and Dissertations
This study examines automated Air Tasking Order (ATO) generation and dissemination under the Joint Forces Air Component Commander (JFACC) concept, focusing on an evaluation of information systems support given the differing service philosophies concerning control of tactical air assets. Current Department of Defense doctrine identifies the Contingency Tactical Air Control System Automated System (CTAPS) as the standard automated system for Theater Battle Management planning for the JFACC. To achieve service interoperability, the doctrine requires the use of CTAPS for ATO generation and dissemination when joint operations are conducted under the JFACC concept. A problem arises in that CTAPS is developed …

Stabilization Of A Tailings Dam By De-Watering, A. B. Fourie, G. I. Mcphail
Stabilization Of A Tailings Dam By De-Watering, A. B. Fourie, G. I. Mcphail
International Conference on Case Histories in Geotechnical Engineering
The failure of the outer slope of one of the paddocks of a tailings dam, resulted in a significant decrease in the area available for tailings deposition. Overloading of the remaining five paddocks resulted. To maintain the stability of the existing dam whilst construction of new disposal facilities was in progress, three techniques were investigated; horizontal, push-in drains at the dam toe, a rock buttress around the operational paddocks, and vertical de-watering wells installed on the first terrace, or ‘step-back’ of the dam. De-watering wells proved most effective, and 165 wells were installed. A monitoring programme included regular determination of …

Geomechanical Studies For A Himalayan Tunnel In Jointed Dolomites: A Case History, G. S. Saini, A. K. Dube
International Conference on Case Histories in Geotechnical Engineering
Reported case history of Himalayan tunnel reveals that Barton's and Bieniawski's classification systems provide better assessment of the rock mass behavior. The design and shear strength parameters derived from these classifications provided a preliminary design of the tunnel, which has been critically evaluated with the design, adopted at site. Based on the structural feature and ground water conditions, a number of tunnelling conditions have been predicted. The studies indicated the loosening rock pressures would be occuring at site with an estimated range of 0. 25 kg/cm2 to 3. 58 kg/cm2. Problems of roof collapse, flowing ground condition …
The Impact Of Rising Ground Water Level On The Geotechnical Behavior Of Soil In Hot Climate Regions, A. S. Stipho
The Impact Of Rising Ground Water Level On The Geotechnical Behavior Of Soil In Hot Climate Regions, A. S. Stipho
International Conference on Case Histories in Geotechnical Engineering
The continuous development and industrial changes in Saudi Arabia necessitates large ground water exploitation and brought about significant changes to the ground water regime. The alarming evidence of rising shallow ground water level and the widespread structural problems have mitigate the extra demand to develop special geotechnical awareness, standard testing and designing procedures to minimize the impact of wetting on soil behavior in the hot climate region. Field and laboratory test results on typical soil samples have established the influence of rising moisture and exemplified the adverse levels of collapse manifested by the large reduction in shearing strength and the …

Coordinate Measuring Machines : A Modern Inspection Tool In Manufacturing, Matthias Richard Mantel
Coordinate Measuring Machines : A Modern Inspection Tool In Manufacturing, Matthias Richard Mantel
Theses
Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) are flexible and universal dimensional measuring devices with the capability for full integration into a CIM information network. Developed as highly precise measuring machines for specially designed measuring rooms, today's CMMs are more and more used in shop floor applications which is a hostile environment for a precise measuring tool. CMMs are offered in a variety of configurations and levels of automation. For the CMM buyer it is therefore essential to have an overview of the different types of CMMs and their subsystems before making a purchasing decision.
To obtain reliable measuring results that are used …
Cone Penetration In Cemented Deposits-A Field Study, Semih Arslan
Cone Penetration In Cemented Deposits-A Field Study, Semih Arslan
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
Neglecting cementation results in an underestimation of slope stability and pile capacity in design and analysis of geotechnical engineering problems related to cemented deposits. Developing methods to identify and assess the engineering characteristics of cemented deposits is an important subject in geotechnical engineering.
This study is conducted to evaluate the reliability of the prediction schemes proposed by previous investigators through a field study of cone penetration in a cemented deposit and respective laboratory triaxial study on undisturbed cemented specimens. The effect of cementation on cone penetration resistance is investigated through the field study, and the effects of cementation on drained …

Simulation Model For Predicting The Impact Of Progressive Diseases In The U.S. Population By Tracking, Biju Suseelan
Simulation Model For Predicting The Impact Of Progressive Diseases In The U.S. Population By Tracking, Biju Suseelan
Masters Theses
Computer Aided Simulation is the process of designing a mathematical-logical model of a real system and experimenting with this model on a computer. Simulation encompasses a model building process as well as the design and implementation of an appropriate experiment involving that model. A simulation experiment involves observing the dynamic behavior of a model by moving from state to state in accordance with well-defined operating rules designed into the model. This research contains the development of a novel approach for the HIV transmission dynamics by using computer simulation to track the HIV positive individuals in a population and to determine …
Scheduling Air Mobility Command's Channel Cargo Missions, Gregory S. Rau
Scheduling Air Mobility Command's Channel Cargo Missions, Gregory S. Rau
Theses and Dissertations
Through the use of a linear programming model, this research revised the initial schedule for AMC's channel cargo missions to eliminate any excess delay enroute by minimizing the cumulative, weighted time-in-system for all cargo, according to a given cargo flow. In fact, the revised schedule minimizes any assigned nonnegative weighting of the time-in-system, due to the properties of equivalent measures of performance. When combined with Step One of a proposed two-step process for revising AMC's channel mission schedule, this research can be used to improve the current schedule based on Step One's cargo flow. By carefully defining the notation and …
Determining Cargo Flow For Air Mobility Command's Channel Cargo System, Michael Del Rosario
Determining Cargo Flow For Air Mobility Command's Channel Cargo System, Michael Del Rosario
Theses and Dissertations
This research investigated using a multiperiod multicommodity minimal cost flow (M2MCF) formulation to model the channel cargo system of the United States Air Force's Air Mobility Command (AMC). The objective of this research was to determine how cargo should flow in the channel cargo system in order to minimize the cargo's delay enroute from its origin to its destination. This research showed the size of an M2MCF model of the channel cargo system exceeds AMC's computational capabilities. Additionally, this research describes three approaches to reduce the problem size. Because of the problem size and other modeling limitations discovered during this …

A systems engineering approach to the development of a radically different kind of surface combatant ship is presented, followed by a preliminary design of the ship shown by the analysis to be most effective. The requirement for the project was the development of a ship which would provide a major increase in the missile firepower of a battlegroup. The study conducts an analysis of four warfare scenarios and evaluates the effectiveness of replacing some Aegis ships with the missile carrier (CMX) and examines the relative utility of varying missile loads for the CMX. An alternative is chosen for further development …
