Determination Of Cleaning Frequency And Power Enhancement Of Photovoltaic Panels Using Novel Cleaning Approach, Ali Hasan Shah Jun 2019

Determination Of Cleaning Frequency And Power Enhancement Of Photovoltaic Panels Using Novel Cleaning Approach, Ali Hasan Shah

Electrical Engineering Theses

Dust accumulation on the photovoltaic (PV) surface decreases the solar radiation penetration to the PV cells and eventually the power production from the PV system. In order to prevent the dust-based power losses, the PV systems are required to be cleaned frequently depending upon different geographical locations, PV integration schemes, and the scale of the PV power plant. In large-scale power plants, the PVs are periodically cleaned traditionally by water sprinkling that requires sophisticated equipment mobile equipment that at the best involves robotics and hence calls for substantial capital investment as well as water consumption. Since most of the largescale …

Financial Feasibility Of Leed Certified Buildings For Developers And Investors, Erik P. Henriksen Jun 2019

Financial Feasibility Of Leed Certified Buildings For Developers And Investors, Erik P. Henriksen

Construction Management

This is a case study on a small to mid-size private equity firm that deals with real estate development as well as investment to find out the financial feasibility of LEED certified buildings in today’s building climate. Interviews with two investment analysts at this firm who are versed in LEED certification about how it is looked at in their company as well as the broader industry will give insights into the feasibility of developing or investing in environmentally friendly buildings. This impacts the real estate and construction industries due to the fact that developers and investors are often times a …

Production Of Anti-Corrosion Materials From Uae Date Palm Waste, Nour Shehadeh Abdelrahman Apr 2019

Production Of Anti-Corrosion Materials From Uae Date Palm Waste, Nour Shehadeh Abdelrahman

Theses

Palm tree serves as the main source of biomass in the Gulf countries. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) alone is blessed with more than 40 million date palm trees, which generate a huge amount of waste annually. The main objective of this thesis is to examine the ability to produce a corrosion inhibitor from a date palm tree, waste, starting by extracting lignin from different parts of the date palm tree and characterizing the extracted lignin, converting lignin to sodium lignosulfonate, while selecting the optimum condition for the conversion reaction and characterizing the prepared lignosulfonate. Finally, the corrosion efficiency for …

Low Frequency Injection As A Method Of Low-Level Dc Microgrid Communication, Matthew Davidson Apr 2019

Low Frequency Injection As A Method Of Low-Level Dc Microgrid Communication, Matthew Davidson

Theses and Dissertations

In the last ten years, DC microgrid approaches have gained more popularity for the interconnection of distributed energy resources (DERs) and prosumers. The devices (generation, storage, and load) connected to the network may contain operational parameters that have the ability to be adjusted in real-time as to optimize the operation of the microgrid. In this thesis, a simple unidirectional global communication scheme is defined, implemented, and tested. The proposed approach relies on low frequency sinusoidal components that are injected into the DC microgrid power lines. Using the proposed communication approach, multiple parameters can be transmitted to the devices connected to …

Elaboración Del Manual De Técnicas Sostenibles En Prácticas De Ecoturismo En Zonas De Postconflicto: Caso De Estudio Cubarral, Meta, Paula Carolina Perez Camargo Jan 2019

Elaboración Del Manual De Técnicas Sostenibles En Prácticas De Ecoturismo En Zonas De Postconflicto: Caso De Estudio Cubarral, Meta, Paula Carolina Perez Camargo

The Role Of The Built Environment In Transforming Underserved Neighborhoods Into Smart And Connected Communities, Mary Claire Nabors Jan 2019

The Role Of The Built Environment In Transforming Underserved Neighborhoods Into Smart And Connected Communities, Mary Claire Nabors

All ETDs from UAB

The goal of this report is to create a model for transforming underserved neighborhoods into smart, connected, healthy, and sustainable communities by focusing on the built environment. To do this, there must be a thorough neighborhood analysis of the existing conditions with recommendations for what needs to be done, both short term and long term. The built environment impacts many aspects of a neighborhood and the quality of life for residents. Sidewalks, streets, lighting, landscaping, and accessibility are all components of the built environment and research has continuously shown how the deterioration of the built environment affects the health and …
