Electricity Market Operations With Massive Renewable Integration: New Designs, Shengfei Yin Jul 2021

Electricity Market Operations With Massive Renewable Integration: New Designs, Shengfei Yin

Electrical Engineering Theses and Dissertations

Electricity market has been transitioning from a conventional and deterministic operation to a stochastic operation under the increasing penetration of renewable energy. Industry-level solutions toward the future electricity market operation ask for both accuracy and efficiency while maintaining model interpretability. Hence, reliable stochastic optimization techniques come to the first place for such a complex and dynamic problem.

This work starts at proposing a solution strategy for the uncertainty-based power system planning problem, which acts as a preliminary and instructs the electricity market operation. Considering 100% renewable penetration in the future, it analyzes the cost-effectiveness of renewable energy from a long-term …

Robust Observability, Control, & Economics Of Complex Cyber-Physical Networks, Shaurya Agarwal Aug 2015

Robust Observability, Control, & Economics Of Complex Cyber-Physical Networks, Shaurya Agarwal

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

This dissertation deals with various aspects of cyber-physical system. As an example of cyber physical systems, we take transportation networks and solve various problems, namely: 1) Network Observability Problem, 2) Network Control Problem, and 3) Network Economics Problem. We have divided the dissertation into three parts which solve these three problems separately. First part of the dissertation presents a novel approach for studying the observability problem on a general network topology of a traffic network. We develop a new framework which investigates observability in terms of flow information on arcs and the routing information. Second part of the dissertation presents …

Benefits Of Near-Term Cloud Location Forecasting For Large Solar Pv, Timothy Robert Rudd Aug 2011

Benefits Of Near-Term Cloud Location Forecasting For Large Solar Pv, Timothy Robert Rudd

Master's Theses

As the ‘green’ energy movement continues to gain momentum, photovoltaic generation is becoming an increasingly popular source for new power generation. The primary focus of this paper is to demonstrate the benefits of close-to real-time cloud sensing for Photovoltaic generation. In order to benefit from this close-to real-time data, a source of cloud cover information is necessary. This paper looks into the potential of point insolation sensors to determine overhead cloud coverage. A look into design considerations and economic challenges of implementing such a monitoring system is included. The benefits of cloud location sensing are examined using computer simulations to …

Functional And Economic Considerations Of An Electrical Line Feeding Large Concentration Loads, Seth O. Lewis May 1960

Functional And Economic Considerations Of An Electrical Line Feeding Large Concentration Loads, Seth O. Lewis

Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs

This paper discusses the considerations required for selecting particular characteristics of [transmission lines] and presents an original method of obtaining the most economical solution. A typical problem at the Public Service Company of New Mexico is solved to illustrate the usefulness of this method.
