Investigating The Impact Of Pre-Professional Organization Participation On Undergraduate Technology And Engineering Education Student Retention And Interest In Teaching, Emily Yoshikawa-Ruesch May 2024

Investigating The Impact Of Pre-Professional Organization Participation On Undergraduate Technology And Engineering Education Student Retention And Interest In Teaching, Emily Yoshikawa-Ruesch

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Fall 2023 to Present

The field of Technology and Engineering Education (TEE) has evolved in name and content throughout its existence. Throughout these evolutions, the number of TEE programs across the United States have decreased along with a decrease in the number of students graduating from undergraduate TEE programs. Previous investigations into the recruitment of TEE students have identified social interactions with TEE program faculty and technology and engineering educators as influential in students' interest in teaching technology and engineering at the secondary level. This study sought to investigate how social interactions through participation in Technology and Engineering Educators Association (TEECA), as a community …

Analyzing Diverse Student Experiences: The Intersection Of Equity, Inclusivity, And Biomedical Engineering Education Through A Clinical Observations And Needs Finding Course, Jacquelynn Horsey May 2024

Analyzing Diverse Student Experiences: The Intersection Of Equity, Inclusivity, And Biomedical Engineering Education Through A Clinical Observations And Needs Finding Course, Jacquelynn Horsey

Biomedical Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses

In the field of biomedical engineering, needs identification and solution development are an important element of the design process. In our undergraduate curriculum, a course was designed to allow clinical observation and provide an opportunity for students to learn about engineering design and engage with clinicians via completing rotations in medical facilities near our campus. While this type of course is not unique, evaluating its efficacy is not simple. Given the broad range of institutional resources available- such as proximity to a medical school, or residency programs- reporting the quality of such courses within the context of such available resources …

Cultural Awareness Application, Bharat Gupta May 2024

Cultural Awareness Application, Bharat Gupta

Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations

In an increasingly interconnected global landscape, cultural awareness and competency have become indispensable skills for individuals and organizations alike. This paper introduces a pioneering cultural awareness application, grounded in the Cultural Orientation Model—a comprehensive framework devised by Dr. Walker [8]to guide individuals in understanding, appreciating, and effectively engaging with diverse cultures. The application encompasses ten primary dimensions, each representing fundamental aspects of social life shared by members of any socio-cultural environment. Through a combination of cultural education, interactive learning, guidance on cultural etiquette, and integration of cultural events, the application aims to foster empathy, tolerance, and effective cross-cultural communication skills. …

Community College Engineering Degree Partnerships With 4-Year Universities, Jeffrey Mark Stear Apr 2024

Community College Engineering Degree Partnerships With 4-Year Universities, Jeffrey Mark Stear

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Increasing the number of STEM professionals and reducing inequities in STEM are national priorities. Community colleges are important to address these concerns because they represent a higher percentage of underrepresented minority (URM) and women students. However, students starting 4-year STEM degrees in community college have had a lower completion rate. Partnerships between community colleges and 4-year universities have the potential to improve success for community college students, but more research is necessary. The purpose of this ex post facto, quantitative, correlational study was to determine the relationships among participation in different types of partnerships between community colleges and 4-year universities, …

Nonprofit Leader Experiences In Sector-Bending After Lean Six Sigma Training: Tension, Concepts, And Changed Behaviors, Beverly Codallos Mar 2024

Nonprofit Leader Experiences In Sector-Bending After Lean Six Sigma Training: Tension, Concepts, And Changed Behaviors, Beverly Codallos

Dissertations

Government, business, and nonprofit represent three distinct types of organizations governed by different legal frameworks designed to facilitate collective action (DiMaggio & Anheier, 1990). The emergence of hybrid forms and increasing isomorphic pressures in the nonprofit sector (Bromley & Meyer, 2017; McCambridge, 2014) have challenged the traditional separation of organizational forms. This study explored the phenomenon popularized as sector-bending, “a wide variety of approaches, activities, and relationships that are blurring the distinctions between nonprofit and for-profit organizations, either because they are behaving more similarly, operating in the same realms, or both” (Dees & Anderson, 2003, pg. 16). This qualitative study …

A Political Theory Of Engineered Systems And A Study Of Engineering And Justice Workshops, Dominic David Carrese Jan 2024

A Political Theory Of Engineered Systems And A Study Of Engineering And Justice Workshops, Dominic David Carrese

Dartmouth College Master’s Theses

Since there are good reasons to think that some engineered systems are socially undesirable—for example, internal combustion engines that cause climate change, algorithms that are racist, and nuclear weapons that can destroy all life—there is a well-established literature that attempts to identify best practices for designing and regulating engineered systems in order to prevent harm and promote justice. Most of this literature, especially the design theory and engineering justice literature meant to help guide engineers, focuses on environmental, physical, social, and mental harms such as ecosystem and bodily poisoning, racial and gender discrimination, and urban alienation. However, the literature that …

Análisis De Factores De Riesgos Laborales, A Los Cuales Están Sometidos El Personal En Una Empresa Textil En La Ciudad De Bogotá, Cundinamarca, Said Namen Téllez, Daniel Felipe Moreno Monroy
