Position Preference And Diffusion Path Of An Oxygen Ion In Apatite-Type Lanthanum Silicate La9.33si6o26: A Density Functional Study, Ting Liao, Taizo Sasaki, Shigeru Suehara, Ziqi Sun

Using density functional theory, we investigated the position preference and diffusion mechanisms of interstitial oxygen ions in lanthanum silicate La9.33Si6O26, which is an apatite-structured oxide and a promising candidate electrolyte material for solid oxide fuel cells. The reported lanthanum vacancies were explicitly taken into account by theoretically determining their arrangement with a supercell model. The most stable structures and the formation energies of oxygen interstitials were determined for each charged state. It was found that the double-negatively charged state is stable over a wide range of the Fermi level, and that the excess oxygen …

Differential kinematic has a wide range application area in robot kinematics. The main advantage of the differential kinematic is that it can be easily implemented any kind of mechanisms. The oxidation of stainless steels 304 and 304L during hot rolling is studied in this paper. Results show the oxide scale thickness decreases significantly with an increase of reduction, and the oxide scales of both 304 and 304L stainless steels were found more deformable than the steel substrate. Surface roughness shows a complicated transfer during the hot rolling process due to the complexity of oxide scale characteristics. Also, surface roughness decreases with an increase of reduction. The friction coefficient increases with reduction in all cases, and the increase is more significant in the case of the 304 stainless steel than …

Pose normalization is an important step to establish shape correspondence for group comparison of anatomical structures. The most basic and widely used way is ellipsoid fitting, which provides three principal axes for shape alignment, and is often solved by least square fitting. In this paper, it is recognized that the deformation caused by neuro-degenerative diseases is usually locally irregular, behaving like the outliers to the majority of the anatomical surfaces. A new idea is investigated in this study to reduce the cover spalling of high-strength concrete columns: installing relatively cheap materials such as household fly screen and wire mesh in the formwork of RC columns. Three materials were chosen in this study: fiberglass fly mesh (FGFM), standard aluminum fly mesh (SAFM), and 12:7 x 12:7 galvanized steel wire mesh (S12.7 WM). A total of 16 cylindricalspecimens with a length of 925 mm and a diameter of 205 mm were cast and tested under concentric, eccentric, and pure bending loading. Here we report a detailed investigation of NdMn2Ge1.6Si0.4; this forms part of our investigation of the magnetic order across the NdMn2Ge2−xSix (x = 0–2.0) series by magnetometry, x-ray diffraction and neutron diffraction over the temperature range 6–465 K. On decreasing the temperature from 465 K, NdMn2Ge1.6Si0.4 exhibits four magnetic transitions: (i) from paramagnetism to intralayer antiferromagnetism AFl at TIntraN ~ 430 K; (ii) AFl to canted ferromagnetism Fmc at TInterC ~ 330 K; (iii) Fmc to conical magnetic ordering …

In this paper, we compare three inverse kinematic formulation methods for the serial industrial robot manipulators. All formulation methods are based on screw theory. Screw theory is an effective way to establish a global description of rigid body and avoids singularities due to the use of the local coordinates. In these three formulation methods, the first one is based on quaternion algebra, the second one is based on dual-quaternions, and the last one that is called exponential mapping method is based on matrix algebra. Experimental Study On The Effectiveness Of Prefabricated Vertical Drains Under Cyclic Loading, Cholachat Rujikiatkamjorn, Buddhima Indraratna, Guanghui Meng

This study is an attempt to investigate the effectiveness of a prefabricated vertical drain (PVD) installed in remoulded soft clay, where a large-scale cyclic triaxial process simulation rig was employed to simulate cyclic loading representing a track environment. The experimental data show that PVD successfully prevents excessive accumulation of pore water pressure during cyclic loading, and their dissipation continues to occur after the load is removed. The findings of this study have direct significance to rail track environments, e.g. in coastal Australia, where PVD installation beneath rail tracks constructed on low-lying estuarine soils has been recently adopted.
