Improvement Of Pedagogical Laboratory Based Learning: Multimedia Enhanced Instructional Methods, Sumbul Khan
Improvement Of Pedagogical Laboratory Based Learning: Multimedia Enhanced Instructional Methods, Sumbul Khan
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
In engineering technology and other scientific-based education, lab-based courses play a crucial role (Ma & Nickerson, 2006). Even though laboratory experience in student learning is crucial, it faces some problems. Due to insufficient laboratory conditions that lead to overcrowding and inability to view demonstrations, the effectiveness of hands on experience declines (Tiwari & Singh, 2011; Tuysuz, 2010). Considering the limitations that constrain lab experience, investigating and implementing alternatives to enhance pedagogical laboratory based learning becomes inevitable. This study investigates multimedia enhanced pedagogical teaching methods for delivering laboratory instruction to students. The purpose of this study was to improve pedagogical laboratory …
A Problem Solving Approach To Enterprise Filevault 2 Management And Integration, Nicholas Cobb
A Problem Solving Approach To Enterprise Filevault 2 Management And Integration, Nicholas Cobb
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Consumer technology adoption into large enterprise environments is occurring at an unprecedented rate. Employees require the flexibility and efficiency of using operating systems, computers, and mobility products they are familiar with and that enable their productivity. Due to this industry phenomenon, one large shipping enterprise must work to create solutions to integrate Apple’s OS X operating system into its traditional Windows-based operating environment. This level of integration must take place carefully to enable usability and foster the continued data security of enterprise assets. This paper describes the steps and methodology taken, as well as the rationale used, to accomplish the …

Analysis And Interpretation Of The 2013 Wku Steel Bridge Competition, Dylan H. Ward
Analysis And Interpretation Of The 2013 Wku Steel Bridge Competition, Dylan H. Ward
Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects
This research centers on building a working steel bridge that can hold over 2500 pounds, while deflecting no more than 1.5 inches. Weighing less than 150 pounds, the bridge was designed by inputting models into programs such as SAP and Visual Analysis, and adding the required load effects. Creating such a bridge involves various disciplines such as fabrication, communication, engineering, computer science, and economics. This presentation will address the design procedure, the building process, and the challenges faced by the team. This experience has allowed the bridge team to see what it takes to finish a project from start to …
A Discussion Of Structural Analysis Techniques For Western Kentucky University's Concrete Canoe, "Courageous", Aaron J. Daley
A Discussion Of Structural Analysis Techniques For Western Kentucky University's Concrete Canoe, "Courageous", Aaron J. Daley
Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects
One of the most famous aspects of the WKU Civil Engineering department is the annual student participation in the Concrete Canoe Competition. This year-long project requires seniors to design, manage construction for, and compete with a twenty-foot long boat made out of concrete and reinforcement. It is important to know the loads that the canoe will experience during its use in paddling races. The process for determining these internal forces is called structural analysis. For my project I will be discussing the analysis process employed for the 2013 concrete canoe, exploring accuracy, technical knowledge required, and the practical application of …
A Civil Engineering Student's Crash Course In Concrete Canoe Hull Design, Emily G. Mesker
A Civil Engineering Student's Crash Course In Concrete Canoe Hull Design, Emily G. Mesker
Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects
Every year, seniors in the WKU civil engineering department form a team and design, build, and compete with a concrete canoe. For the first time in several years, the 2013 seniors have used our own design for the canoe hull shape. I will be discussing our canoe design process: why we wanted a new shape for our hull, how we made design decisions and the actual design and analysis process, in hopes of leaving a “how to” guide for future seniors. Along with the designing process will be a discussion of the success of our final product and what we …

Synthesis Of Rhenium And Manganese Pyridazoal Complexes, Jesse Evans
Synthesis Of Rhenium And Manganese Pyridazoal Complexes, Jesse Evans
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Pyridazines are a heterocyclic aromatic compound containing a characteristic N-N bond that are utilized in many fields, including medicine and electronics. It is this latter field that Dr. Snyder's research group is focused upon. Organometallic compounds are a better conducting material than the current inorganic compounds used in electronics due to better conductance of electricity, lower production cost, and the ability to be formed into thin films. With this in mind, Dr. Snyder's research group has set out to synthesize organometallic compounds for this purpose. Following procedures set forth by Snyder etc, and altered to form an off-metal route, we …

Technology Management Competencies, Mark Doggett, Pam Mcgee, Sophia Scott
SEAS Faculty Publications
In order to meet the increasing expectations of industry, technology management programs combine the application of technical skills with management competencies. The aim of the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE) is to develop professionals committed to solving complex technological problems, while advancing the technologist and applied engineering workforce. However, there is a wide variability of perceptions regarding the technologist and the technology manager. Clarity concerning the required competencies for an entry- level technology manager is essential. In order for technology management programs to be relevant, their competencies must be acknowledged and agreed upon. In addition, these technology …
