Recent Developments In Timber Design & Its Impact On Carbon Emissions, Raquel Jackson
Recent Developments In Timber Design & Its Impact On Carbon Emissions, Raquel Jackson
Spectra Undergraduate Research Journal
This paper explores recent developments in timber building designs and its potential towards reducing carbon emissions. Carbon dioxide emissions are a growing issue worldwide as urbanization and industrialization continues to increase. The rising concentration of carbon dioxide emissions pose significant concerns towards public welfare and environmental health. Despite current methods to reduce greenhouse gasses, carbon emissions remain difficult to reduce from steel and concrete industries. Increasing timber use in building design is a possible solution. Increasing more timber in building design can help reduce carbon emissions due to the carbon-absorbing properties of the construction material. Timber as a construction material …
Mathematical Description Of A Bleach Impregnation Reservoir, Bekobod Ibragimov
Mathematical Description Of A Bleach Impregnation Reservoir, Bekobod Ibragimov
Chemical Technology, Control and Management
This article discusses the issues of constructing a mathematical model of the technological process of bleaching textile materials in an impregnating reservoir using the heat balance equation, on the basis of which a qualitative analysis of the dynamic properties of an object has been carried out in order to create highly efficient control systems with the use of energy-saving technologies. While constructing a mathematical model characterizing the established and non-established modes of the control object (impregnating reservoir) used changes in heat flow and mass velocity of the incoming tissue. An algorithm for constructing a mathematical model of the process of …
Environmental Evaluation Of The Alternative Housing Environments Of Slums, Aya Abd El-Maksoud Maan, Alaa Mohamed Shams, Mohanad Ali Fouda
Environmental Evaluation Of The Alternative Housing Environments Of Slums, Aya Abd El-Maksoud Maan, Alaa Mohamed Shams, Mohanad Ali Fouda
Mansoura Engineering Journal
The government has built many similar units all over Egypt, especially Cairo, without considering the differences between residents, studying the areas from which they came, or preparing the neighborhoods they moved to, and they did not follow Vision 2030, which stipulates achieving sustainability in modern urban societies. The research aims to prepare alternative housing areas to be environmentally sustainable and to provide guiding principles for the design of alternative residential neighborhoods. The researcher used the applied approach to the Asmarat neighborhood as one of the built-up neighborhoods to solve the problem of slums in Cairo and was evaluated by the …

Mechanical And Durability Properties Of Geopolymer Concrete – A Review, Lelian Elkhatib, Fadi Al Aridi, Adel Elkordi, Jamal Khatib
BAU Journal - Science and Technology
Owing to the ongoing increase in human population, there is a need for more construction projects including residential buildings and other amenities. Concrete is by far the dominant material used in construction and cement is a main ingredient. Cement manufacture is an energy intensive process and emit large amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. A reduction in the amount of cement used in construction is greatly beneficial. The use of geopolymer or alkali activated materials can serve this purpose as it attempts to totally replace cement in concrete. Geopolymers are materials that consist mainly of silica and alumina materials …

The paper aims to investigate the concentrations of Pb, Cd, Cr and Ag element of as well as microbial contamination in computer keyboard within the work environment at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology Sciences (FETS) at Sebha University, Libya. The results showed that the mean elemental concentrations (mg/g) in the samples were Pb (14.2±12.9), Ag (7.49±1.44), Cr (6.09±2.88) and Cd (4.43±1.48). The most commonly found heavy metals were Pb (44.1%), followed by (Ag 23.3), (Cr 18.9), and (Cd 13.8) %. The concentrations were higher than the limits allowed by EPA 2009. The concentration of Cd also exceeded the European …
Exploring The Psychological Consequences Of Distances In Virtual Reality, Gary D. Jacobs
Exploring The Psychological Consequences Of Distances In Virtual Reality, Gary D. Jacobs
Frameless
This presentation will examine common concepts of traveling between formalized spaces inside virtual reality (VR) experiences.
The common method for traveling in virtual reality is to click on an area or trigger and be transported to that location. These “teleportations”, however, remove the notion of distances from our virtual worlds. This is akin to a magic wand that eliminates the consequences of travel in VR. Often heralded as a boon for the virtual worlds we can create, wherein we can travel to far away lands without lag in time and without effort on the part of the participant. We posit …
Fracturing The Rule Of Capture: The Improper Application Of The Rule Of Capture To Subsurface Intrusions Resulting From Hydraulic Fracturing, Alexis K. Désiré
Fracturing The Rule Of Capture: The Improper Application Of The Rule Of Capture To Subsurface Intrusions Resulting From Hydraulic Fracturing, Alexis K. Désiré
Seattle Journal of Technology, Environmental & Innovation Law
Imagine that during the course of hydraulically fracturing a tract of land—a process used to extract gas from low-permeability rock formations —a drilling company causes fractures, as well as some of the materials necessary to the fracturing process, to cross the boundary of its property line and enter an adjoining property—that is, it makes a subsurface intrusion onto a neighbor’s property. Assume further that, because the company’s fractures have extended into the neighbor’s property, oil and gas from the neighboring land travels to the company’s wellbore, causing the neighbor to bring a tort action against the company for harms related …
Overview On The Lebanese Environmental Governance System: Main Hazards In The Oil And Gaz Sector, Rami Harkous
Overview On The Lebanese Environmental Governance System: Main Hazards In The Oil And Gaz Sector, Rami Harkous
BAU Journal - Science and Technology
Due to harsh environment and vulnerability of marine ecosystems, many challenges are faced regarding offshore oil and gas activities. Many steps are currently undertaken to overcome such challenges.
As Lebanon is inside the new oil and gas sector in its offshore region, plans should be made to address environmental challenges that may occur in this sector. The Lebanese environmental governance system meets international standards in various aspects but some gaps are addressed to manage such risks that may be encountered with oil and gas activities in the Lebanese offshore. This article ends by a fast run through environmental regulatory authority, …
Environmental, Health And Safety Intricacies Of Artisanal Mining In The Gold-Rich Landscapes Of Karamoja, North-Eastern Uganda, Eria Serwajja, Paul Isolo Mukwaya
Environmental, Health And Safety Intricacies Of Artisanal Mining In The Gold-Rich Landscapes Of Karamoja, North-Eastern Uganda, Eria Serwajja, Paul Isolo Mukwaya
Journal of Sustainable Mining
Artisanal small-scale gold mining presents opportunities for Uganda’s rural poor. However, it also poses serious environmental, health and safety challenges. A suite of data collection methods including interviews, focus groups discussions, water and soils sampling were used to examine the perceptions of miners on the status, prevalence and extent of mercury use in artisanal gold mining, mercury transit routes and toxicity levels of soils and water in Karamoja sub-region. It also explores the health, safety and environmental implications of artisanal small-scale gold mining in the sub-region. The findings show that trade and access to mercury is widespread; although trade in, …

The national economy of the country uses various machines and mechanisms, the vast majority of which are road transport, operated in various sectors of the Republic. Due to the fact that they operate in the severe operating conditions associated with off-road and high dusty environment, there is an intensive lubricant contamination of transmission units. This article studies the rates of fuel consumption when using agricultural machinery, such parameters as fuel and lubricant efficiency, flammability, motor ability of agricultural machinery, speed. In addition, the article presents the results of bench tests to determine the quantitative and qualitative indicators of abrasive particles …
