Physics aware simulations, often arising in problems of fluid dynamics, aerodynamics and multi-physics areas have demanded the need for computing software that has the capability to resolve the complexities at multiple scales to analyze and visualize the effects of their interactions with the surroundings. Using a suite of modeling techniques and instrumentation we study the atmospheric pollutants in the PdN Region. The first objective of this work was to measure hemi-spherically integrated, spectrally resolved solar photon flux (actinic flux) between the wavelengths 300 and 700 nm, and use the measured actinic flux to improve air quality simulations. Actinic flux was measured in the PdN region in order to calculate photolysis rate coefficients for different pollutants. The improved photolysis rate coefficients were then integrated into a photochemical air quality model (CAMx) in order to improve air quality forecasting. Development Of Load Balancing Algorithm Based On Analysis Of Multi-Core Architecture On Beowulf Cluster, Damian Valles

In this work, analysis, and modeling were employed to improve the Linux Scheduler for HPC use. The performance throughput of a single compute-node of the 23 node Beowulf cluster, Virgo 2.0, was analyzed to find bottlenecks and limitations that affected performance in the processing hardware where each compute-node consisted of two quad-core processors with eight gigabytes of memory. The analysis was performed using the High Performance Linpack (HPL) benchmark.

In addition, the processing hardware of the compute-node was modeled using an Instruction per Cycle (IPC) metric that was estimated using linear regression. Modeling data was obtained by using the Tuning …

This Thesis compares a Compute Node, a cluster compute node that can completely contain smaller processes within, but not larger ones, with a Memory Node, a cluster compute node that can fully contain large processes within main memory. The Compute Node and Memory Node are tested by executing matrix multiplication programs that range in size from small processes similar to jobs that can be run on a single workstation to large processes that would only fit entirely within a Memory Node.
