This project develops a lab experiment for Cal Poly class EE444 - Power Systems Laboratory based on the Schweitzer SEL-710 motor protection relay. We aimed to develop a compact and highly mobile defense system that allows operational flexibility. The Control Electronics is a real-time data acquisition and control system based on Atmel’s AVR microcontroller. The Control Electronics will be embedded into Rantec’s 3U power supply to monitor and report power supply data [1]. The power supply data monitored includes power supply output voltages, input voltage, DC bus voltage, and temperature.

The microcontroller continuously monitors DC voltages through seven I2C compatible analog-to-digital converters via a custom Two-Wire interface. This easily accessed tool provides simple information regarding energy trending data, allowing for all student residents no matter their academic discipline, to understand their energy trends and opportunities for reduction. This project details the design and integration of a wind and hydroelectric power simulation system in correlation with the DC House Project. The simulator uses variable speed drives to rotate a DC motor which then drives a generator to produce output. This output is then regulated using a DC to DC converter which holds the voltage level constant making it easier to interface with other power sources for the house. This project portrays the design and construction of a pulse width modulation (PWM) inverter. The inverter is implemented as a unipolar converter. The inverter provides a steady single-phase sinusoidal 60Hz AC voltage output from a DC input. This is a basic DC-AC power converter that is built in 3 separate phases and integrated altogether at the end. The inverter can be broken down into the control unit, firing circuit, and the H-bridge. Poly_Sense provides a platform for developers to use for a wide range of Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) applications. This modular system supports different sensing applications by allowing the developer to easily change between supported sensors through the graphical user interface (GUI). The platform also allows developers to integrate new sensors by writing device drivers which follow the platform’s guidelines and utilize the application programming interface (API). Automatic pitch recognition allows for numerous commercial applications, including automatic transcription and digital storage of live performances. Direct-sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) is a special modulation technique used in many telecommunication devices which uses a wide bandwidth relative to single-frequency carrier modulation techniques. Like the name suggests, the spectral content of wireless signals are spread across a range of frequencies to increase the security of transmitted signals by reducing the potential impact of outside interference (i.e. noise, jamming). I am working with the Naval Postgraduate School to develop a low cost CubeSat launch sequencer for NPSCuL that is designed to operate in low Earth orbit. The system will be capable of providing programmable delays with a minimum delay of one second to a maximum delay of five minutes. Delays must be accurate to within ± 10% or within one second, whichever is less. After the delay, the system will provide the necessary launch signal. To ensure protection from radiation, the system will feature triple redundancy and voting logic stages to ensure that the proper signal is propagated.

The objective of this Senior Project is to use the SEL 387 current differential and overcurrent microprocessor relays to protect three-single-phase 1 KVA 120:208 transformers configured in ∆-∆, Y-Y, Y-∆, and ∆-Y connections. This circuit aims to distort an audio signal input in a novel and aesthetically pleasing manner. When it comes to the timbre of a note, even harmonics generally sound better than odd harmonics. Most forms of audio signal distortion (usually for electric guitar) primarily add odd harmonics to a signal, as this is easily accomplished by clipping the waveform. Buddy is a Breathalyzer for the iPhone designed to be more a product than a project. Through proprietary hardware and a custom iOS application, Buddy provides users with a previously untapped link from the alcohol in their body to the display on their phones. Buddy uses an alcohol sensor connected to an Arduino Uno to accurately detect the BAC of the user’s breath.
