Implementation Of Lean And Six Sigma Methodologies To Improve The Operations And Efficiencies Of An Inpatient Pharmacy, Brian Ricks Jul 2022

Implementation Of Lean And Six Sigma Methodologies To Improve The Operations And Efficiencies Of An Inpatient Pharmacy, Brian Ricks

Medical Engineering Theses

Reducing overhead costs and eliminating process waste are important aspects of any successful organization. Hospital processes are frequently interconnected, with many exchanges of both materials and information between departments. The Inpatient Pharmacy, a key component of any hospital, has hundreds of interactions between departments on any given day, and many processes see the pharmacy acting as producers, consumers, and transporters of goods throughout the hospital. Such a varied role provides broad opportunities for process improvement. Within the broader manufacturing world, the philosophies of Lean and Six Sigma have helped many companies increase their process efficiencies, reduce costs, and increase quality. …

A Novel Electroconductive Nanofibrous Scaffold For Bone Regeneration, Mitchell Kenter Jun 2022

A Novel Electroconductive Nanofibrous Scaffold For Bone Regeneration, Mitchell Kenter

Medical Engineering Theses

The goal of this study was to develop a biodegradable and conductive scaffold to mimic the piezoelectric properties of bone and the architecture of the extracellular matrix. Poly(3,4- ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) is a conductive polymer of great interest in tissue engineering due to excellent electrical stability and biocompatibility. To enhance its conductivity, dopants such as dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) can be added. Engineered graphene oxide (GO) can also be introduced as oxidant to enhance conductivity and mechanical properties. PEDOT nanocomposites were synthesized by oxidative polymerization of 3, 4-Etylenedioxythiophene monomer (EDOT) in the presence of GO, DMSO, ferric chloride and various solvents. The …

Patella Resection In Total Knee Arthroplasty: An Analytical Comparison Of Three Techniques, Kelsey Cushway Jun 2021

Patella Resection In Total Knee Arthroplasty: An Analytical Comparison Of Three Techniques, Kelsey Cushway

Medical Engineering Theses

Patella resection, as a routine component of TKA, can be both difficult to plan and difficult to execute. The primary purpose of this study was to evaluate the repeatability of three unique patellar resection techniques used in total knee arthroplasty. The secondary purpose of this study was to establish whether different surgical techniques were able to reproduce preoperative plans made by each surgeon. We used radiographic measurements to evaluate patellar thickness and patellar cut angle preoperatively and postoperatively. Three techniques (45 cases in total) were evaluated, revealing qualitative differences between surgical techniques and significant quantitative differences between average patellar thickness …
