Inspired by nature, herein we designed a novel construction of SnO2 anodes with an extremely high lithium storage performance. By utilizing small sheets of graphene oxide, the partitioned-pomegranate-like structure was constructed (SnO2@C@half-rGO), in which the porous clusters of SnO2 nanoparticles are partially supported by reduced graphene oxide sheets while the rest part is exposed (half-supported), like partitioned pomegranates. When served as anode for lithium-ion batteries, SnO2@C@half-rGO exhibited considerably high specific capacity (1034.5 mAh g−1 after 200 cycles at 100 mA g−1), superior rate performance and remarkable durability (370.3 mAh g−1 …

Preparation Of Microencapsulated Phase Change Materials (Mepcm) For Thermal Energy Storage, Weiguang Su, Jo Darkwa, Georgios Kokogiannakis, Tongyu Zhou, Yilin Li

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part B

Microencapsulated phase change materials (MEPCM) could be used for energy saving applications in buildings due to their relatively high energy storage capacities at constant temperature, which could passively reduce peak cooling loads in summer. In this study, poly(methyl methacrylate-co-methacrylic acid) (PMMA-MAA) was used as a shell material to fabricate MEPCM by crosslinking methyl methacrylate (MMA) and methacrylic acid (MAA) through in-situ suspension-like polymerization method. The effects of initiator weight percentage and the ratio of shell monomers for the preparation of MEPCM were also investigated. The experimental results showed that the best MEPCM sample was achieved with a shell monomer weight …

A Consumer-Oriented Decision-Making Approach For Selecting The Cloud Storage Service: From Paprika Perspective, Salim Al Isma'ili, Mengxiang Li, Jun Shen, Qiang He Jan 2017

A Consumer-Oriented Decision-Making Approach For Selecting The Cloud Storage Service: From Paprika Perspective, Salim Al Isma'ili, Mengxiang Li, Jun Shen, Qiang He

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part B

In recent years there is a growth in the number of companies that offers cloud storage solutions. From user’s perspectives, it is becoming a challenging task to choose which cloud storage to use and from whom, based on user’s needs. In this context, no framework can evaluate the decision criteria for selection of cloud storage services. This paper proposes a solution to this problem by identifying the cloud storage criteria and introduces the PAPRIKA approach for measuring the criteria of cloud storage based on client’s preference. This work demonstrated the applicability of the framework (decision model) by testing it with …

Simulation Of The Melting Process Of Ice Slurry For Energy Storage Using A Two-Fluid Lattice Boltzmann Method, Qi Lin, Shugang Wang, Zhenjun Ma, Jihong Wang, Tengfei Zhang

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part B

Ice slurry can be used as the thermal storage media in latent cool storage systems for both residential and commercial buildings. This paper presents the investigation of the phase change characteristics of the ice slurry using a two-fluid Lattice Boltzmann Method (TFLBM). The melting and migration processes of the ice slurry are simulated by improving the equilibrium distribution function and matching the relevant parameters such as the kinetic viscosity of ice particle cluster and cross-collision coefficient. The sensitivity analysis of the ice slurry viscosity and cross-collision coefficient are achieved through six numerical experiments, and the ice melting in the internal-melt …
