Tracking Hand Trajectory As A Preliminary Study For Hand Hygiene Stages, Rashmi Bakshi, Jane Courtney, Damon Berry, Graham Gavin Jan 2019

Tracking Hand Trajectory As A Preliminary Study For Hand Hygiene Stages, Rashmi Bakshi, Jane Courtney, Damon Berry, Graham Gavin

Session 5: Medical and Biomedical Imaging

The process of hand washing involves complex hand movements. There are six principal sequential steps for washing hands as per the World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines. In this work, a preliminary analysis was undertaken in order to develop an automated image processing system for tracking and classification of two-handed dynamic gestures involved in hand washing. To facilitate this study, videos of healthcare workers who were engaged in washing hands were sourced from the internet. The videos were analysed in order to extract the unique features of two-handed gestures associated with all hand hygiene (HH) stages. The combination of these unique …

Ghost Towns: Semantically Labelled Object Removal From Video, William Clifford, Charles Markham Jan 2019

Ghost Towns: Semantically Labelled Object Removal From Video, William Clifford, Charles Markham

Session 4: 2D, 3D Scene Analysis and Visualisation

This paper describes a method used to produce a video of a road in which the foreground itemswhich obstruct the view of the road have been removed i.e. other vehicles. Once these regions have been identified they are replaced using suitable images that closely resemble the original background. The work considers an approach that uses multiple video sequences of the same road (C1...Cn). One video is identified as video Cp , that requires the least repair. All instances of vehicles in each frame of video were identified using a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). The regions associated with each vehicle were …

Spoilage Detection In Raspberry Fruit Based On Spectral Imaging Using Convolutional Neural Networks, Karthik Kuchangi Jothi Prakash Jan 2018

Spoilage Detection In Raspberry Fruit Based On Spectral Imaging Using Convolutional Neural Networks, Karthik Kuchangi Jothi Prakash

Dissertations

Effective spoilage detection of perishable food items like fruits and vegetables is essential for retailers who stock and sell large quantities of these items. This research is aimed at developing a non-destructive, rapid and accurate method which is based on Spectral Imaging (SI) used in tandem with Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to predict whether the fruit is fresh or rotten. The study also aims to determine the number of days before which the fruit rots. This research employs a primary, quantitative and inductive methods to investigate the Deep Learning based approach to detect fruit spoilage. Raspberry fruit in particular has …

Hand Posture Recognition In Sign Language Using Shape Distributions, Eamonn Young, Gary Clynch Jan 2006

Hand Posture Recognition In Sign Language Using Shape Distributions, Eamonn Young, Gary Clynch

Conference Papers

A shape distribution is a histogram used to uniquely identify different shapes. The histogram is produced by taking random distances on the surface of a shape or object. Theoretically, each shape or object should produce a unique histogram, as the distribution of distances for each shape should be different. Shape distributions have recently been implemented in a number of object recognition areas. They are an attractive method as they are inherently simple, fast and generic. This paper presents the results of research undertaken on the application of shape distributions for the purpose of sign language recognition. There are four main …
