Time Dependent Fixation And Implantation Forces For A Femoral Knee Component: An In Vitro Study, Travis A. Burgers, Jim Mason, Matthew Squire, Heidi-Lynn Ploeg
Mechanical Engineering Faculty Publications
Implant survival rate is a primary concern for individuals receiving a primary total knee arthroplasty. Loosening is the primary reason for revision surgery and was therefore the focus of the current study. To better understand the mechanics of implant fixation, the time-dependent fixation of a femoral knee component was measured in vitro on three cadaveric femurs. The fixation of each femoral knee component was measured with strain gauged implants for at least 10 minutes on each femoral component. Additionally, impaction forces were measured during the implantation of each component. These forces were 2–6 times less than previously reported. The implantation …

Formula Sae Impact Attenuator Testing, Chad Abrahamson, Bill Bruns, Joseph Hammond, Josh Lutter
Formula Sae Impact Attenuator Testing, Chad Abrahamson, Bill Bruns, Joseph Hammond, Josh Lutter
The Journal of Undergraduate Research
The purpose of this paper is to validate the impact attenuator designed by SDSU Formula SAE team according to 2010 Formula SAE rules. The impact attenuator is made of Plascore PCGA-XR1-5.2-1/4-P-3003 aluminum honeycomb that is pre-crushed to 245 psi. The test was dynamically performed using a 661 lb mass dropped 8.3 ft onto the material sample at 23 ft/sec, and data was measured with an Olympus i-SPEED 3 high speed camera. The impact attenuator must have an average deceleration equal to or less than 20 G’s and a peak deceleration equal to or less than 40 G’s. Two specimens were …
Water And Nutrient Balances Of Vegetative Treatment Systems For Feedlots In South Dakota, Daniel T. Ostrem
Water And Nutrient Balances Of Vegetative Treatment Systems For Feedlots In South Dakota, Daniel T. Ostrem
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Vegetative treatment systems (VTS) are a possible alternative to storage basins for managing feedlot runoff but have not been researched in South Dakota. This study was conducted to evaluate the performance of VTS within South Dakota. The performance was evaluated by determining water and mass balances on each vegetative treatment area (VTA). The balances were determined by measuring all inflow, outflow, evapotranspiration, precipitation, and both soil and water nutrient concentrations within the VTA. Twelve site years have been completed in researching VTS from four feed lots in South Dakota. Seven of the twelve site-years VTS were able to prevent water …
