Laser As A Tool To Study Radiation Effects In Cmos, Bahar Ajdari Aug 2017

Laser As A Tool To Study Radiation Effects In Cmos, Bahar Ajdari

Dissertations and Theses

Energetic particles from cosmic ray or terrestrial sources can strike sensitive areas of CMOS devices and cause soft errors. Understanding the effects of such interactions is crucial as the device technology advances, and chip reliability has become more important than ever. Particle accelerator testing has been the standard method to characterize the sensitivity of chips to single event upsets (SEUs). However, because of their costs and availability limitations, other techniques have been explored. Pulsed laser has been a successful tool for characterization of SEU behavior, but to this day, laser has not been recognized as a comparable method to beam …

High-Performance Input/Output Circuit For Cmos Integrated Circuit Interface, Chee How Lim Jul 1997

High-Performance Input/Output Circuit For Cmos Integrated Circuit Interface, Chee How Lim

Dissertations and Theses

In recent years, strong demand for high-performance electronic products has fueled the need for high-speed and high-integration VLSI circuits. This demand is expected to continue growing in the future, which will lead to development of IC's that are much more compact and operate at higher frequencies. As a result. preserving signal integrity for proper IC communications becomes an increasingly difficult challenge. In this thesis, an understanding of IC noise in relation to IC packaging is sought. An IC package is modeled with sophisticated 3-D simulators to extract its corresponding parasitics. These parasitics. expressed in terms of resistance. inductance. and capacitance …

Automatic Synthesis Of Vlsi Layout For Cmos Continuous-Time Filters, Wei Han Mar 1997

Automatic Synthesis Of Vlsi Layout For Cmos Continuous-Time Filters, Wei Han

Dissertations and Theses

Automatic synthesis of digital VLSI layout has been available for many years. It has become a necessary part of the design industry as the window of time from conception to production shrinks with ever increasing competition. However, automatic synthesis of analog VLSI layout remains rare.

With digital circuits, there is often room for signal drift. In a digital circuit, a signal can drift within a range before hitting the threshold which triggers a change in logic state. The effect of parasitic capacitances for the most part, hinders the timing margins of the signal, but not its functionality. The logic functionality …

Investigation Of Techniques For High Speed Cmos Arbitrary Waveform Generation, Albert Henry Nehl Jan 1990

Investigation Of Techniques For High Speed Cmos Arbitrary Waveform Generation, Albert Henry Nehl

Dissertations and Theses

Today a growing number of applications in design engineering, production and environmental testing, and system service require specific analog waveforms and digital patterns. Such requirements are neither satisfactorily nor easily met by the use of standard function or single purpose, custom generators.

Traditional methods of waveform generation suffer from undesirable complexity or mediocre performance and are otherwise limited. For the majority of arbitrary waveform generation applications, including medical engineering, modal analysis and electronic engineering, direct digital synthesis techniques are satisfactory. Direct digital synthesis, based generally on periodic retrieval of predetermined amplitude values, may be used to 2 generate such waveforms. …

A Cmos Circuit Generator Using Differential Pass Transistors For Implementing Boolean Functions, Rabe'eh Mahooti Dec 1988

A Cmos Circuit Generator Using Differential Pass Transistors For Implementing Boolean Functions, Rabe'eh Mahooti

Dissertations and Theses

This study uses differential pass transistor methodology for implementing and evaluating Boolean functions. The main goal is investigation of CMOS and nMOS approaches in pass transistor logic design. Pass-transistor logic is most effective in the implementation of Boolean functions when the vectors are in the same format. It has been demonstrated that nMOS pass transistor logic driven by a control signal voltage above the Vdd level offers a significant improvement in speed. nMOS pass transistorsalso offer less area consumption in comparison to the CMOS approach.

The philosophy developed here has been used in the design of a program for …
