The Reversal Of Carbonate Wettability Via Alumina Nanofluids: Implications For Hydrogen Geological Storage, Amer Alanazi, Mujahid Ali, Muhammad Ali, Alireza Keshavarz, Stefan Iglauer, Hussein Hoteit

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Underground hydrogen storage (UHS) has been recognized as a key enabler of the industrial-scale implementation of a hydrogen-based economy. However, the efficiency and storage capacity of hydrogen (H2) in carbonate aquifers can be influenced by the presence of organic acids. Nevertheless, the existing literature contains few investigations of H2/calcite/brine wettability and the influence of organic acids on H2 storability in carbonate reservoirs. Therefore, the present study examines the influence of stearic acid on the dynamic H2/brine wettability of calcite substrates (as a proxy of carbonate formation) under various geological conditions (0.1–20 MPa at 323 K), equilibrated in 10 wt% NaCl …

Dynamic Modeling Of A Nuclear Integrated Energy System With Thermal Energy Storage And Hydrogen Production, Seth J. Dana Aug 2024

Dynamic Modeling Of A Nuclear Integrated Energy System With Thermal Energy Storage And Hydrogen Production, Seth J. Dana

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Fall 2023 to Present

Historically, nuclear reactors have used water for cooling and moderating the nuclear reaction within the core. Advanced generation IV nuclear reactors currently under development are designed with different coolants which enable operation at higher temperatures. A higher operating temperature makes nuclear power suitable for co-located hydrogen production via high temperature electrolysis. Natrium, an advanced reactor design by TerraPower and GE Hitachi, combines a sodium fast reactor with molten salt thermal energy storage. The work presented in this thesis models and analyzes three Natrium systems which integrate hydrogen production with the Natrium nuclear power plant. The first two configurations focus on …

A Review And Analysis Of Nuclear Hydrogen Production In Generation Iv Reactors, Arijit Saha Ayon, Ashiqur Rahman Alif, A. S. M. Nasim

International Journal of Nuclear Security

Hydrogen is becoming increasingly vital as a chemical element in the progress of human civilization. Hydrogen finds application in the creation of ammonia, the manufacturing of nitrogen-based fertilizers, and a wide range of organic compounds, including methanol and propulsion fuel for space exploration missions. Additionally, there are ongoing experiments in the automotive industry to harness hydrogen-based fuel cells as an alternative power source. In modern technology, multiple methods and strategies for hydrogen production originate from diverse sources, such as fossil fuels, renewable energy, nuclear energy, and more. Generation IV nuclear reactors significantly affect the production of hydrogen. These reactors operate …

Maximizing Charge Dynamics In Znin2s4/Cn Van Der Waals Heterojunction For Optimal Hydrogen Production From Photoreforming Of Glucose, Jinqiang Zhang, Xinyuan Xu, Lei Shi, Huayang Zhang, Shaobin Wang, Hongqi Sun Feb 2024

Maximizing Charge Dynamics In Znin2s4/Cn Van Der Waals Heterojunction For Optimal Hydrogen Production From Photoreforming Of Glucose, Jinqiang Zhang, Xinyuan Xu, Lei Shi, Huayang Zhang, Shaobin Wang, Hongqi Sun

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Biomass photoreforming stands out as a promising avenue for green hydrogen, leveraging solar energy for the generation and transformation of clean and renewable energy resources. The pursuit of efficient photocatalysts is motivated by the unsatisfied hydrogen evolution performance arising from the complex and stubborn structure of biomass. Herein, we loaded 2-dimensional (2D) ZnIn2S4 onto 2D carbon nitride nanosheets, resulting in the formation of Van der Waals (VDW) heterojunctions (ZIS/CN). Band structure and morphology of CN were rationally tailored through precursor engineering to effectively magnify interfacial internal electric field and minimize diffusion pathway within the VDW heterostructure, realizing optimal charge dynamics …

The Effect Of Mechanical Strain On The Electronic Conductivity Of Α- Fe2o3: A Density Functional Theory Study, Sheriff Naziru Abdulmutalib Jan 2024

The Effect Of Mechanical Strain On The Electronic Conductivity Of Α- Fe2o3: A Density Functional Theory Study, Sheriff Naziru Abdulmutalib

Theses and Dissertations

Hydrogen has emerged as a promising future energy carrier due to its ability to produce zero carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions when burned. However, the limited natural abundance of hydrogen necessitates the development of cost-effective and environmentally friendly methods for large-scale hydrogen production. Among the different hydrogen production approaches, photoelectrochemical water splitting, which employs a photoanode material in a cell using solar energy to split water into hydrogen and oxygen, is the focus of this work. α-Fe2O3 (hematite) is a photoanode material that shows a promising future for hydrogen generation in a photoelectrochemical cells due to its cheapness, availability, and its …

Energy Management And Sizing Of A Stand-Alone Hybrid Renewable Energy System For Community Electricity, Fresh Water, And Cooking Gas Demands Of A Remote Island, Mim M. Ahmed, Barun K. Das, Pronob Das, Md S. Hossain, Md G. Kibria Jan 2024

Energy Management And Sizing Of A Stand-Alone Hybrid Renewable Energy System For Community Electricity, Fresh Water, And Cooking Gas Demands Of A Remote Island, Mim M. Ahmed, Barun K. Das, Pronob Das, Md S. Hossain, Md G. Kibria

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Research into the off-grid hybrid energy system to provide reliable electricity to a remote community has extensively been done. However, simultaneous meeting electric, freshwater, and gas demands from the off-grid hybrid energy sources are very scarce in literature. Power- to-X (PtX) is gaining attention in recent days in the energy transition scenarios to generate green hydrogen, the primary product of the process as an energy carrier, which is deemed to replace conventional fuels to reach absolute carbon neutrality. In this study, renewable–based hybrid energy is developed to simultaneously meet the electricity, freshwater, and gas (cooking gas via methanation process) demands …
