Computational Prediction Of Conductivities Of Disk-Shaped Particulate Composites, Jian Qiu

The effective conductivities are determined for randomly oriented disk-shaped particles using an efficient computational algorithm based on the finite element method. The pairwise intersection criteria of disks are developed using a set of vector operations. An element partition scheme has been implemented to connect the elements on different disks across the lines of intersection. The computed conductivity is expressed as a function of the density and the size of the circular disks or elliptical plates. The effective conductivity of random particulate material system is computationally investigated using the Monte Carlo scheme and finite element method. A cubic system consisting of randomly-dispersed, equal-sized, deformable ellipsoids are modeled in this study. The steady-state conduction analysis along with a finite element analysis are performed to evaluate the electrical or thermal conductivity for the mechanical contact system. To represent more realistic material system, interfacial friction and gap conductance (or contact resistance) are included among the contacting particles. Multi-Agent Pathfinding is an NP-Complete search problem with a branching factor that is exponential in the number of agents. Because of this exponential feature, it can be difficult to solve optimally using traditional search techniques, even for relatively small problems. Many recent optimal solvers have attempted to reduce the complexity of the problem by resolving the conflicts between agent paths separately. Very little of this research has focused on creating quality heuristics to help solve the problem. The gold standard in 2016 for thoracic aortic grafts is Dacron®, polyethylene terephthalate, due to the durability over time, the low immune response elicited and the propensity for endothelialization of the graft lumen over time. The heuristic search community traditionally uses A* as the baseline algorithm for their research methods. Research papers in the road networks community, however, often build upon Dijkstra's algorithm and use Bidirectional Dijkstra's algorithm as their baseline. This thesis investigates the performance of A* and Bidirectional Dijkstra in road networks to see how they compare and to see if there is a principled explanation for the different approaches. Our analysis reveals why Bidirectional Dijkstra can perform well in this domain, but also shows a simple mistake that can be made when building test problems that hurts the performance of A*.

Different parameters and scenarios were discussed and implemented for both silicon and silicon carbide MOSFET cases. A comparison between same circuits is done using silicon in the first case and silicon carbide MOSFET was implemented under the same conditions and parameters to investigate the silicon carbide MOSFET enhancement to the circuit. This thesis presents a method for generating an optimized path through a given track. The path is generated by choosing waypoints throughout the track then iteratively optimizing the position of these waypoints. The waypoints are then connected by optimized paths represented by curvature polynomials. The end result is a path through the track represented as a spline of curvature polynomials. This method is applied to multiple simulated tracks and the results are presented. Patients with unilateral dysvascular transtibial amputation (TTA) adopt movement compensations that are required to maintain balance and achieve ambulation in the absence of ankle plantar flexion, and result in increased and asymmetric joint loading patterns. As a result, this population is at an increased risk of overuse injuries, such as low back pain (LBP). Syndesmotic injury, more commonly known as a "high ankle sprain", accounts for over 12% of all ankle sprain incidents in the US; of which, over 25% occur during a sporting activity.
