Decaf: A New Event Detection Logic For The Purpose Of Fusing Delineated-Continuous Spatial Information, Kerry Q. Hart

Department of Computer Science and Engineering: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

Geospatial information fusion is the process of synthesizing information from complementary data sources located at different points in space and time. Spatial phenomena are often measured at discrete locations by sensor networks, technicians, and volunteers; yet decisions often require information about locations where direct measurements do not exist. Traditional methods assume the spatial phenomena to be either discrete or continuous, an assumption that underlies and informs all subsequent analysis. Yet certain phenomena defy this dichotomy, alternating as they move across spatial and temporal scales. Precipitation, for example, appears continuous at large scales, but it can be temporally decomposed into discrete …

Spatial And Temporal Variability In Precipitation In The Upper Tennessee Valley, James Raymond Jones May 2014

Spatial And Temporal Variability In Precipitation In The Upper Tennessee Valley, James Raymond Jones

Masters Theses

Understanding variability in precipitation both spatially and temporally is critical when planning water resources projects. Furthermore, in mountainous regions, such as the Upper Tennessee Valley, orographic precipitation plays a major role in both water supply and potential hazards due to flooding. The temporal and spatial variability of precipitation was investigated by utilizing a dataset aggregated by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). These data consist of 56 rain gauges that were extracted from the larger TVA rain gauge network as well as mean areal precipitation values for 78 subbasins located in the Upper Tennessee Valley that were retrieved from the National …

Pressure Hydrometallurgy, Fathi Habashi Apr 2014

Pressure Hydrometallurgy, Fathi Habashi

Fathi Habashi

Pressure Hydrometallurgy is a supplement to the author’s Textbook of Hydrometallugy [second edition 1999]. It is an update to the new processes described in the literature dealing with recovering metals from ores and concentrates using this technology. Great progress was made in this field that necessitated this review.

Integrated Remote Sensing And Forecasting Of Regional Terrestrial Precipitation With Global Nonlinear And Nonstationary Teleconnection Signals Using Wavelet Analysis, Lee Mullon Jan 2014

Integrated Remote Sensing And Forecasting Of Regional Terrestrial Precipitation With Global Nonlinear And Nonstationary Teleconnection Signals Using Wavelet Analysis, Lee Mullon

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Global sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies have a demonstrable effect on terrestrial climate dynamics throughout the continental U.S. SST variations have been correlated with greenness (vegetation densities) and precipitation via ocean-atmospheric interactions known as climate teleconnections. Prior research has demonstrated that teleconnections can be used for climate prediction across a wide region at sub-continental scales. Yet these studies tend to have large uncertainties in estimates by utilizing simple linear analyses to examine chaotic teleconnection relationships. Still, non-stationary signals exist, making teleconnection identification difficult at the local scale. Part 1 of this research establishes short-term (10-year), linear and non-stationary teleconnection signals …

Effect Of Niobium Clustering And Precipitation On Strength Of A Nbti-Microalloyed Ferritic Steel, Andrii Kostryzhev, Abdullah Alshahrani, Chen Zhu, Julie Cairney, Simon Peter Ringer, Chris Killmore, E V. Pereloma Jan 2014

Effect Of Niobium Clustering And Precipitation On Strength Of A Nbti-Microalloyed Ferritic Steel, Andrii Kostryzhev, Abdullah Alshahrani, Chen Zhu, Julie Cairney, Simon Peter Ringer, Chris Killmore, E V. Pereloma

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

The microstructure-property relationship of an NbTi-microalloyed ferritic steel was studied as a function of thermo-mechanical schedule using Gleeble 3500 simulator, optical and scanning electron microscope, and atom probe tomography.

Effect Of Austenite Deformation Temperature On Nb Clustering And Precipitation In Microalloyed Steel, E V Pereloma, A G Kostryzhev, A Alshahrani, C Zhu, J M. Cairney, C R. Killmore, S P. Ringer Jan 2014

Effect Of Austenite Deformation Temperature On Nb Clustering And Precipitation In Microalloyed Steel, E V Pereloma, A G Kostryzhev, A Alshahrani, C Zhu, J M. Cairney, C R. Killmore, S P. Ringer

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

The effect of thermomechanical processing conditions on Nb clustering and precipitation in both austenite and ferrite in a Nb-Ti microalloyed steel was studied using electron microscopy and atom probe tomography. A decrease in the deformation temperature increased the Nb-rich precipitation in austenite and decreased the extent of precipitation in ferrite. Microstructural mechanisms that explain this variation are discussed. 2013 Acta Materialia Inc. Published by Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
