Background: Currently, natural and synthetic scaffolds are being explored as augmentation devices for rotator cuff repair. When used in this manner, these devices are believed to offer some degree of load sharing; however, no studies have quantified this effect. Furthermore, the manner in which loads on an augmented rotator cuff repair are distributed among the various components of the repair is not known, nor is the relative biomechanical importance of each component. The following are a series of cost estimate models similar in format to a typical engineer’s estimate that were developed in support of our financial impact assessment report for LD 1725. The models us current material costs, labor costs, and equipment costs for the region to provide a comparative cost analysis of seven culvert replacement scenarios. The models provide information about what the cost impact of LD 1725 would be for typical culvert replacements in Maine. A simplified model has been developed to investigate effects of important operating parameters on performance of an entrained-bed absorber and bubbling-bed regenerator system collecting CO2 from flue gas. The particle population balance was considered together with chemical reaction to determine the extent of conversion in both absorber and regenerator. Effects of several absorber parameters was tested in a laboratory scale process. The CO2 capture efficiency decreased as temperature or gas velocity increased. However, it increased with static bed height or moisture concentration. The CO2 capture efficiency was exponentially proportional to each parameter. Based on the absolute value of exponent of …

The study of floating oscillating water column (OWC) wave energy conversion (WEC) device performance includes analysis of the dynamic coupling of the water column and the floating structure. In the present investigation, a mechanical oscillator model was proposed in order to examine this relationship for the heave motion of a floating wave energy conversion device. Characterisation of the dynamic system optimal behaviour was performed by examining the effect of relative OWC and floating structure natural frequencies, the phase relationships of the various system components and the optimal power take-off damping of the system. A number of tests have been conducted to investigate response of vertically loaded capped pile groups in sand undergoing uniform lateral soil movement. The development of shear force, bending moment and deflection along the piles was measured. Presented in this paper are 4 tests on 2-pile free-standing groups, with a view to establish solutions for predicting the pile response. A web service can be composed of multiple component web services in a loosely-coupled environment. Traditional Role Based Access Control (RBAC) is inadequate for the authorization management of composite services since the administration of the component web services has not been taken into consideration. In this paper, we propose a novel conceptual model, named as Service Oriented Authorization Control (SOAC) to facilitate the administration and management for both service consumers and component web services. A set of administrative functions are also provided for managing the elements of SOAC. This research will be the first step towards managing service-oriented authorization.

One of the main goals in oxygen steelmaking process is to reduce the carbon concentration of the liquid iron effectively. It is understood that the majority of the carbon removal reaction occurs in the emulsion phase via the reaction between metal droplets and the slag phase. An improved understanding of this reaction and the factors controlling the overall rate should provide better control of the process and increase the productivity.
