Estimating Travellers’ Trip Purposes Using Public Transport Data And Land Use Information, Bo Du Jan 2019

Estimating Travellers’ Trip Purposes Using Public Transport Data And Land Use Information, Bo Du

SMART Infrastructure Facility - Papers

In public transport system, the equipped automated fare collection (AFC) system records travellers’ spatial and temporal information and generates a mass of data daily with more than ever attraction of interest and attention from both academics and practitioners. Advances in data availability and data mining techniques provide great opportunity to investigate various researches in an efficient and effective manner. A comprehensive literature review on the application of public transport smart card data before 2011 can be referred to [1]. As some relevant studies in recent years, [2] proposed a data fusion method to infer passengers’ behavioral attributes of the trips …

Examining The Effects Of Transport Policy On Modal Shift From Private Car To Public Bus, Ahm Mehbub Anwar, Jie Yang Jan 2017

Examining The Effects Of Transport Policy On Modal Shift From Private Car To Public Bus, Ahm Mehbub Anwar, Jie Yang

SMART Infrastructure Facility - Papers

Private vehicles have become the most common mode of daily travel. This is one effect of the poor accessibility of public transportation. This paper attempts to use a study based on a survey of commuters in order to devise ways of encouraging the use of public transportation. Two different public transport policies were examined: (i) once-an-hour direct bus service from home to university (policy 1), and (ii) park-and-ride facilities (policy 2). Binary logistics models are proposed with the intention of comparing the utility of travel modes between private cars and public buses. These models are also used to identify the …

Constrained Optimization Of Average Arrival Time Via A Probabilistic Approach To Transport Reliability, Mohammad-Reza Namazi-Rad, Michelle E. Dunbar, Hadi Ghaderi, Payam Mokhtarian Jan 2015

Constrained Optimization Of Average Arrival Time Via A Probabilistic Approach To Transport Reliability, Mohammad-Reza Namazi-Rad, Michelle E. Dunbar, Hadi Ghaderi, Payam Mokhtarian

SMART Infrastructure Facility - Papers

To achieve greater transit-time reduction and improvement in reliability of transport services, there is an increasing need to assist transport planners in understanding the value of punctuality; i.e. the potential improvements, not only to service quality and the consumer but also to the actual profitability of the service. In order for this to be achieved, it is important to understand the network-specific aspects that affect both the ability to decrease transit-time, and the associated cost-benefit of doing so. In this paper, we outline a framework for evaluating the effectiveness of proposed changes to average transit-time, so as to determine the …

Exploring Agency Relationship In Transport Service Sector By Analysing Traveller Choice Behaviour, Ahm Mehbub Anwar, A Kiet Tieu, Peter Gibson, Matthew J. Berryman, Khin Than Win, Andrew Mccusker, Pascal Perez Jan 2015

Exploring Agency Relationship In Transport Service Sector By Analysing Traveller Choice Behaviour, Ahm Mehbub Anwar, A Kiet Tieu, Peter Gibson, Matthew J. Berryman, Khin Than Win, Andrew Mccusker, Pascal Perez

SMART Infrastructure Facility - Papers

Examining travellers’ preferences for mode choices to understand a rela-tionship between traveller and transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) from the perspective of agency theory (AT) is the main focus of this paper. This paper emphasises on latent and traditional objective attributes to as-sess the mode choice process within the agency relationship as indicated in AT as a method by which the utility of the principal (traveller) can be max-imised. It is found that the probability of car use is significantly higher than public transport due to mismatch between traveller expectations and present transport services and it indicates an existence …

Short Report On: Inquiry Into The Utilisation Of Rail And Infrastructure Corridors. Prepared For The Nsw Legislative Assembly, Committee On Transport And Infrastructure, Andrew Mccusker, Nagesh Shukla Jan 2012

Short Report On: Inquiry Into The Utilisation Of Rail And Infrastructure Corridors. Prepared For The Nsw Legislative Assembly, Committee On Transport And Infrastructure, Andrew Mccusker, Nagesh Shukla

SMART Infrastructure Facility - Papers

This report to the parliamentary inquiry addresses the use of land development for integrated infrastructure corridors and considers improvement to policy development, planning and strategies to achieve greater productivity, enhanced liveability and improved economic benefit through informed decision making. In considering rail corridor usage long term it is essential to support the needs of society through decision making that is underpinned by proper analysis and longer term modelling. In order to ensure any proposed interventions represent a step forward with respect to competiveness of the transport system, the liveability for affected residence and customers and the overall resilience to unexpected …

Paradox Between Public Transport And Private Car As A Modal Choice In Policy Formulation, Ahm Mehbub Anwar Jan 2009

Paradox Between Public Transport And Private Car As A Modal Choice In Policy Formulation, Ahm Mehbub Anwar

SMART Infrastructure Facility - Papers

This paper presents the stance towards modal choice behavior between public transport and private car. To find out the probable solutions, this paper investigated the latent attitudes of the trip makers concerning modal choice between private car and public transport and the advantages and disadvantages of these two modes as a choice. It was also discussed in this paper that the public transport usage can be increased if the service of public transport is designed in a way that accommodates the level of services required by the customers. Even though, several factors, such as individual characteristics and lifestyle, the type …
