Environmentally Conscious Machining Of Inconel 718: Surface Roughness, Tool Wear And Material Removal Rate Assessment, Sadaf Zahoor, Fahad Ameen, Walid Abdul-Kader

Flood cooling is a typical strategy used in the machining of difficult-to-cut materials where high temperatures are produced.Several environmental and health concerns are associated with the cutting fluids employed during this technique. Vegetable oil-based fluids appear to be the best substitute to conventional mineral/synthetic oils due to their environmentally friendly, biode-gradable, renewable, and less toxic properties. Therefore, this paper attempts to establish an environmentally conscious, flood-cooling alternative through replacing conventional fluids with a synthetic vegetable ester-based (Mecagreen 450) biodegradableoil to investigate the machinability aspects of Inconel 718. In addition to the cooling environment, cutting speed (vs), feed pertooth (fz), and …

A New Topology Of A Fast Proactive Hybrid Dc Circuit Breaker For Mt-Hvdc Grids, Fazel Mohammadi, Gholam Abbas Nazri, Mehrdad Saif Aug 2019

A New Topology Of A Fast Proactive Hybrid Dc Circuit Breaker For Mt-Hvdc Grids, Fazel Mohammadi, Gholam Abbas Nazri, Mehrdad Saif

One of the major challenges toward the reliable and safe operation of the Multi-Terminal HVDC (MT-HVDC) grids arises from the need for a very fast DC-side protection system to detect, identify, and interrupt the DC faults. Utilizing DC Circuit Breakers (CBs) to isolate the faulty line and using a converter topology to interrupt the DC fault current are the two practical ways to clear the DC fault without causing a large loss of power infeed. This paper presents a new topology of a fast proactive Hybrid DC Circuit Breaker (HDCCB) to isolate the DC faults …

A Bidirectional Power Charging Control Strategy For Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles, Fazel Mohammadi, Gholam Abbas Nazri, Mehrdad Saif Aug 2019

A Bidirectional Power Charging Control Strategy For Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles, Fazel Mohammadi, Gholam Abbas Nazri, Mehrdad Saif

Electrical and Computer Engineering Publications

© 2019 by the authors. Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) have the potential of providing frequency regulation due to the adjustment of power charging. Based on the stochastic nature of the daily mileage and the arrival and departure time of Electric Vehicles (EVs), a precise bidirectional charging control strategy of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles by considering the State of Charge (SoC) of the batteries and simultaneous voltage and frequency regulation is presented in this paper. The proposed strategy can control the batteries charge which are connected to the grid, and simultaneously regulate the voltage and frequency of the power grid …

Performance Evaluation Of The Remanufacturing System Prone To Random Failure And Repair, Ronak Savaliya, Walid Abdul-Kader Jun 2019

Performance Evaluation Of The Remanufacturing System Prone To Random Failure And Repair, Ronak Savaliya, Walid Abdul-Kader

Mechanical, Automotive & Materials Engineering Publications

Implementation of new environmental legislation and public awareness has increased the responsibility of manufacturers. Remanufacturing has been applied in many industries and sectors since its introduction. However, only 10% to 20% of the returned products pass through the remanufacturing process, and the remaining products are disposed in the landfills. Uncertainties like high failure rates of the servers, buffer capacities, and inappropriate preventive maintenance policies would be responsible for most of the delays in remanufacturing operations. In this paper, a simulation-based experimental methodology is used to determine the optimal preventive maintenance frequency and buffer allocation in a remanufacturing line. Moreover, an …

Effect Of Yaw Angle On Flow Structure And Cross-Flow Force Around A Circular Cylinder, Ran Wang, Shaohong Cheng, David S.K. Ting Jan 2019

Effect Of Yaw Angle On Flow Structure And Cross-Flow Force Around A Circular Cylinder, Ran Wang, Shaohong Cheng, David S.K. Ting

Mechanical, Automotive & Materials Engineering Publications

Flow around an inclined circular cylinder at yaw angles of α = 0°, 30°, 45°, and 60° has been numerically studied using the delayed detached eddy simulation at a Reynolds number of 1.4 × 104. Periodic boundary conditions are utilized to minimize the end effect. The focus is to explore the effect of yaw angle on the flow structure and the spatial distribution of the cross-flow forces. For the normal flow case, the modulation of the span-wise averaged lift force coefficient is found to be related to the unstable shear layer. For the inclined cases, contours of the sectional lift …
