Approximately 12% of the adult population in the United States is affected by
Osteoarthritis (OA) [1, 2]. Because of this, OA is the considered the most chronic degenerative joint disease, and is subject to continuous research into treatment. OA mainly manifests itself by degrading the articular cartilage in joints, such as the knee, and can eventually lead to complete loss of cartilage and potentially bone damage, leading to pain and discomfort for the patient [3].
