Flue Gas Desulfurization Apparatus, Kunlei Liu, Joseph Eugene Remias
Center for Applied Energy Research Faculty Patents
An apparatus is provided for removing sulfur oxides from a flue gas stream. That apparatus includes an absorber tower having an upper section and a lower section. A packed bed unit is provided in the upper section of the absorber tower. A first recycling circuit is provided for recycling lime water to the lower section of the absorber. Further the apparatus includes a second recycling circuit for recycling caustic solution to the packed bed unit.

Center for Applied Energy Research Faculty Patents
A solvent for removal of an acid gas from a fluid stream includes a promoter amine with a pKa of between 6.5 and 10.5 and a tertiary amine with a pKa of between 8.5 and 10.5.
Carbon Particles, Stephen M. Lipka, Christopher R. Swartz
Carbon Particles, Stephen M. Lipka, Christopher R. Swartz
Center for Applied Energy Research Faculty Patents
A composition generally includes carbon particles. The particles are prepared by dissolving a carbohydrate-based precursor in water to form a precursor solution and placing the precursor solution in a pressure vessel. The precursor solution is placed in a pressure vessel. The pressure vessel is heated to a reaction temperature to form carbon particles. The carbon particles are subjected to a chemical activation and a physical activation. The composition includes, by weight, about 5% to about 30% oxygen.
Enhancement Of Binding Characteristics For Production Of An Agglomerated Product, Darrell Neal Taulbee, Robert Hodgen
Enhancement Of Binding Characteristics For Production Of An Agglomerated Product, Darrell Neal Taulbee, Robert Hodgen
Center for Applied Energy Research Faculty Patents
A method is provided for preparing a product from a precursor material. The method includes the steps of (a) mixing a particulate material and a binder to form a precursor material and (b) irradiating that precursor material with microwave radiation so as to activate the binder and form the product.

Hybrid Flow Battery And Mn/Mn Electrolyte System, Stephen M. Lipka, Christopher R. Swartz
Center for Applied Energy Research Faculty Patents
An electrolyte system for a hybrid flow battery has a manganese based anolyte and a manganese based catholyte.
Hybrid Process Using A Membrane To Enrich Flue Gas Co2 With A Solvent-Based Post-Combustion Co2 Capture System, Kunlei Liu, Reynolds A. Frimpong, Kun Liu
Hybrid Process Using A Membrane To Enrich Flue Gas Co2 With A Solvent-Based Post-Combustion Co2 Capture System, Kunlei Liu, Reynolds A. Frimpong, Kun Liu
Center for Applied Energy Research Faculty Patents
A process for recovery of CO2 from a post-combustion gas includes pre-concentrating a CO2 component of the post-combustion flue gas by passing the post-combustion gas through a CO2-selective membrane module to provide a CO2-enriched permeate stream and a CO2-lean reject stream. Next, in a CO2 absorber, both the CO2-enriched permeate stream and CO2 lean reject stream, fed to separate feed locations on the CO2 absorber, are contacted with a scrubbing solvent to absorb CO2 and provide a carbon-rich scrubbing solvent. Finally, absorbed CO2 is stripped …
