A Forecasting Tool For Predicting Australia's Domestic Airline Passenger Demand Using A Genetic Algorithm, Panarat Srisaeng, Glenn Baxter, Steven Richardson, Graham Wild

Research outputs 2014 to 2021

This study has proposed and empirically tested for the first time genetic algorithm optimization models for modelling Australia’s domestic airline passenger demand, as measured by enplaned passengers (GAPAXDE model) and revenue passenger kilometres performed (GARPKSDE model). Data was divided into training and testing datasets; 74 training datasets were used to estimate the weighting factors of the genetic algorithm models and 13 out-of-sample datasets were used for testing the robustness of the genetic algorithm models. The genetic algorithm parameters used in this study comprised population size (n): 200; the generation number: 1,000; and mutation rate: 0.01. The modelling results have shown …

Development Of An Optical Sensor For Real-Time Weed Detection Using Laser Based Spectroscopy, Arie Jacobus Paap Jan 2014

Development Of An Optical Sensor For Real-Time Weed Detection Using Laser Based Spectroscopy, Arie Jacobus Paap

Theses: Doctorates and Masters

The management of weeds in agriculture is a time consuming and expensive activity, including in Australia where the predominant strategy is blanket spraying of herbicides. This approach wastes herbicide by applying it in areas where there are no weeds. Discrimination of different plant species can be performed based on the spectral reflectance of the leaves. This thesis describes the development of a sensor for automatic spot spraying of weeds within crop rows. The sensor records the relative intensity of reflected light in three narrow wavebands using lasers as an illumination source.

A prototype weed sensor which had been previously developed …

Adiabatic Coherent Quantum Tunneling Of Ultracold Atoms Trapped In An Asymmetrical Two-Dimensional Magnetic Lattices, Ahmed Abdelrahman, Kamal Alameh, Peter Hannford Jan 2010

Adiabatic Coherent Quantum Tunneling Of Ultracold Atoms Trapped In An Asymmetrical Two-Dimensional Magnetic Lattices, Ahmed Abdelrahman, Kamal Alameh, Peter Hannford

Research outputs pre 2011

We propose a new method to realize a two-dimensional magnetic lattice, having two different configurations of asymmetric magnetic lattice, which exhibits magnetic band gap structure, and a symmetric magnetic lattice. We also describe the tunneling mechanisms of magnetically trapped ultracold atoms, prepared in a degenerate quantum gas such as Bose-Einstein Condensate (BEC). A coherent quantum tunneling of ultracold atoms between the sites of the asymmetrical magnetic lattice can be realized which induces the adiabatically controlled dc Josephson current. At critical phase transitions, namely at certain values of site phase difference and population fraction, a plasma oscillation can be observed in …

Development Of A Quality Assurance Plan For A Microbrewery, Matthew J. Williams Jan 1998

Development Of A Quality Assurance Plan For A Microbrewery, Matthew J. Williams

Theses: Doctorates and Masters

Quality assurance (QA) has become a key factor to business success in the marketplace. Within Australia, companies normally approach QA by implementing formal systems which maintain the consistency of manufacturing processes, and hence, the quality of subsequent output. These systems have increasingly been based upon the international series of standards, ISO 9000.In the food industry, safety is a minimum requirement for food quality. As Governments and food authorities have endeavoured to reduce the incidence of foodborne illnesses, they have promoted the implementation of additional systems developed to a specific standard for food safety, namely Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP). …
