An Innovative Fracture Plugging Evaluation Method For Drill-In Fluid Loss Control And Formation Damage Prevention In Deep Fractured Tight Reservoirs, Chengyuan Xu, Lei Liu, Yang Yang, Yili Kang, Zhenjiang You

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Lost circulation, resulting from the undesired loss of drilling fluid into formation fractures, stands as a significant technical obstacle in the exploration and production of oil, gas, and geothermal reservoirs. Effective mitigation of this challenge requires the development and application of robust experimental evaluation methods to assess the effectiveness of fracture plugging. The traditional approach to fracture plugging evaluation relies on a uniform evaluation index and experimental parameters for various lost circulation types. Unfortunately, this practice frequently results in inconsistent performance of loss control formulas during laboratory experiments and field tests. To address this issue, this paper introduces an innovative …

Application Of Underbalanced Tubing Conveyed Perforation In Horizontal Wells: A Case Study Of Perforation Optimization In A Giant Oil Field In Southwest Iran, Erfan Mohammadian, Milad Ebrahimi Dastgerdi, Abbas Khaksar Manshad, Amir H. Mohammadi, Bo Liu, Stefan Iglauer, Alireza Keshavarz

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Underbalanced perforation can substantially reduce formation damage and improve the efficiency of production operation. The field in question is a giant oil field in Southwest Iran, with over 350,000 bbl/day production rates. Reservoir X is the main reservoir of the field and includes 139 horizontal wells out of the total of 185 production wells drilled in the field. Despite its technical difficulties, under-balance perforation has been proven to result in high productivity ratios and has been shown to reduce workover costs if appropriately conducted. Therefore, this study investigated a customized underbalanced tubing conveyed perforation to enhance oil production. First, post-drilling …

Coal Fines Migration: A Holistic Review Of Influencing Factors, Faisal Ur Rahman Awan, Muhammad Arif, Stefan Iglauer, Alireza Keshavarz

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Coal fines can substantially influence coal seam gas reservoir permeability, thus impeding the flow of gas in coal microstructure. The coal fines generation and migration are influenced by several factors, wherein coal fines are generally hydrophobic and aggregate in natural coal seam gas (CSG) under prevailing conditions of pH, salinity, temperature and pressure. This aggregation behaviour can damage the coal matrix and cleat system permeabilities, leading to a considerable reduction of proppant pack conductivity (i.e. fracture conductivity). Several datasets have been reported within the literature on this subject in the last decade. However, a more up-to-date discussion of this area …
