Mechanical Engineering

Cal Poly Legged Robots, led by Professor Refvem and Professor Xing, has been leading Cal Poly’s attempts to simulate, produce, and test their legged robots. The initial testing of the locomotion of these robots can be dangerous to the robot since any bugs in the code could cause the robot to fall over and harm itself. Our responsibility as a team was to deliver a portable platform for testing the locomotion capabilities containing a fall prevention mechanism. In short, we have designed a platform for this purpose that consists of a treadmill surrounded by a wheeled chassis with a system …

Generalized Featured Product Page, Andrew J. Pirondini Jun 2018

Generalized Featured Product Page, Andrew J. Pirondini

Computer Science and Software Engineering

The goal of my senior project was to generalize the process of creating featured product pages with iFixit. Featured product pages are pages with custom content describing an individual product such as text blurbs, images, and even some responsive components. These do not have a simple template like products you might see on Amazon but instead involve scrolling through a variable amount of content.

In order to generalize these, each part of the page was broken into discrete components that contain custom content. There are components for images, paragraph blurbs, lists, footers and more. These components are implemented with React …

Modular Utility Rack And Accessory Line, Ian Philip Thomas Apr 2018

Modular Utility Rack And Accessory Line, Ian Philip Thomas

Construction Management

There is a large gap in the market for heavy duty work racks for fleet vehicles. Modular racks have recently been introduced to the industry allowing contractors the ability to customize them to their needs. However, all customizable racks are limited to lightweight applications. The high strength steel rack I have designed is both modular, and sturdy enough to handle up to an estimated one thousand pounds. On our website, contractors will be able to scroll through the available attachments for his make and model rack and view them built on to his vehicle in 3D computer generated graphics.
