Trustworthy Systems And Protocols For The Internet Of Things, Arman Pouraghily Mar 2020

Trustworthy Systems And Protocols For The Internet Of Things, Arman Pouraghily

Doctoral Dissertations

Processor-based embedded systems are integrated into many aspects of everyday life such as industrial control, automotive systems, healthcare, the Internet of Things, etc. As Moore’s law progresses, these embedded systems have moved from simple microcontrollers to full-scale embedded computing systems with multiple processor cores and operating systems support. At the same time, the security of these devices has also become a key concern. Our main focus in this work is the security and privacy of the embedded systems used in IoT systems. In the first part of this work, we take a look at the security of embedded systems from …

Time-Difference Circuits: Methodology, Design, And Digital Realization, Shuo Li Oct 2019

Time-Difference Circuits: Methodology, Design, And Digital Realization, Shuo Li

Doctoral Dissertations

This thesis presents innovations for a special class of circuits called Time Difference (TD) circuits. We introduce a signal processing methodology with TD signals that alters the target signal from a magnitude perspective to time interval between two time events and systematically organizes the primary TD functions abstracted from existing TD circuits and systems. The TD circuits draw attention from a broad range of application fields. In addition, highly evolved complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology suffers from various problems related to voltage and current amplitude signal processing methods. Compared to traditional analog and digital circuits, TD circuits bring several compelling features: …

Securing Network Processors With Hardware Monitors, Kekai Hu Nov 2015

Securing Network Processors With Hardware Monitors, Kekai Hu

Doctoral Dissertations

As an essential part of modern society, the Internet has fundamentally changed our lives during the last decade. Novel applications and technologies, such as online shopping, social networking, cloud computing, mobile networking, etc, have sprung up at an astonishing pace. These technologies not only influence modern life styles but also impact Internet infrastructure. Numerous new network applications and services require better programmability and flexibility for network devices, such as routers and switches. Since traditional fixed function network routers based on application specific integrated circuits (ASICs) have difficulty keeping pace with the growing demands of next-generation Internet applications, there is an …

Turbo Bayesian Compressed Sensing, Depeng Yang Aug 2011

Turbo Bayesian Compressed Sensing, Depeng Yang

Doctoral Dissertations

Compressed sensing (CS) theory specifies a new signal acquisition approach, potentially allowing the acquisition of signals at a much lower data rate than the Nyquist sampling rate. In CS, the signal is not directly acquired but reconstructed from a few measurements. One of the key problems in CS is how to recover the original signal from measurements in the presence of noise. This dissertation addresses signal reconstruction problems in CS. First, a feedback structure and signal recovery algorithm, orthogonal pruning pursuit (OPP), is proposed to exploit the prior knowledge to reconstruct the signal in the noise-free situation. To handle the …
