Examination Of The Correlation Between Shear Strength, California Bearing Ratio, And Index Properties Of Fine-Grained Soil, Billy W. Rushema
Examination Of The Correlation Between Shear Strength, California Bearing Ratio, And Index Properties Of Fine-Grained Soil, Billy W. Rushema
Master of Science in Civil Engineering Theses
Abstract
California Bering Ratio (CBR) is used to evaluate the strength of the pavement materials by comparing bearing capacity of the material with that of a high-quality crushed stone. This test adopted by transportation agencies and widely used in the design and analysis of pavement. Several agencies developed design thickness chart based on the CBR values of the subgrade. However, CBR test is time consuming and expensive to perform compared to shear strength test and therefore several studies have been conducted to establish correlation between shear strength and CBR. The published correlation models between CBR and shear strength of soil …
2-D Non-Linear Finite Element Analysis Of Folsom Dam: Seismically Induced Separation And Pore Pressure Along The Soil-Concrete Interface, Grace Amoussou
2-D Non-Linear Finite Element Analysis Of Folsom Dam: Seismically Induced Separation And Pore Pressure Along The Soil-Concrete Interface, Grace Amoussou
Master of Science in Civil Engineering Theses
The seismic soil-concrete interface stability of composite dams has been an area of interest to many researchers. However, the true interface behavior during a seismic event has not been well understood. During a ground shaking, bonding and de-bonding action along the interface may cause significant separation of soil and concrete surfaces, and such a separation may take place at any depth along the interface creating a stability concern for the overall dam. Moreover, the repetitive nature of bonding/debonding behavior may induce excess pore pressure along the interface, which in turn, may trigger a liquefaction failure or a hydraulic fracture in …
Spatio-Temporal Analysis Of Highway Congestion And Accidents: A Case Study Of Interstate 285 In Georgia, Melodi Zhan-Moodie
Spatio-Temporal Analysis Of Highway Congestion And Accidents: A Case Study Of Interstate 285 In Georgia, Melodi Zhan-Moodie
Master of Science in Civil Engineering Theses
Road traffic crashes threaten thousands of drivers every day and significant efforts have been put forth to reduce the number of traffic crashes and their impact. Traffic congestion could be both a result of and a contributing factor to traffic crashes. The aim of this study is to investigate spatio-temporal traffic congestion and crash patterns to gain a better understanding of the causation of congestion and accidents, and their interaction. The Interstate 285 (I-285) in Georgia was used as a case study. With the aid of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), spatial clustering and densities of accidents were performed by following …
A Comparative Study Of Insertion Loss Of Traffic Noise Barriers In Georgia, Pablo Giraldo, Jidong Yang
A Comparative Study Of Insertion Loss Of Traffic Noise Barriers In Georgia, Pablo Giraldo, Jidong Yang
Master of Science in Civil Engineering Theses
In this paper, three types of traffic noise barriers, interlocking steel panels, precast concrete panels, and Paragon panel 23-T, were evaluated in terms of insertion loss. Field test was conducted for the noise barriers recently installed as part of the Northwest Express Project in Georgia. The noise insertion loss was measured as noise difference in A-weighted decibels (dBA) immediately before and after the barriers. The insertion loss was then evaluated by correlating with noise barrier types and other influential variables, including the separation distance of barriers from traffic, the level of traffic, wind speed, and pavement types. The results showed …
Analytical Hierarchy Process Evaluation Of The Proposed Slim Modular Flexible Electric Bus Rapid Transit System, Yunji Kim
Master of Science in Civil Engineering Theses
As metropolitan Atlanta area is the one of the fastest growing regions in the nation, its demand for transportation infrastructure has grown. The region between Cobb County and Fulton County experiences the heaviest congestion in Metro-Atlanta. CobbLinc Route 10 is the only form of public transportation serving this area. To relieve the congestion and provide more effective public transportation system, Connect Cobb Corridor project has been proposed with the possible implementation of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. Although BRT has gained popularity for its operational flexibility and efficiency, efforts have been put into developing a new concept vehicle that is …
