Due to sustainable development that focuses on energy conservation, decreasing emissions and environmental effect, the research of heat exchanger network synthesis (HENS) is still necessary and challenging. Most academic studies in the subject of HENS aim on reducing total annual cost (TAC) through optimal topology design without the detailed design costs of each heat exchanger in the network, resulting in conceptual HEN designs. Solidified natural gas (SNG) is an alternative technology for natural gas storage and transportation in the clathrate hydrate formed. It has higher volumetric energy storage with the ease to handle not to mention its safety. Effects of different hydrate promoters, including methyl ester sulfonate (MES), tetrahydrofuran (THF), hollow silica (HS), and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), on the methane hydrate formation was investigated. All experiments were performed in an unstirred tank reactor at desired experimental conditions. However, aromatic hydrocarbon streams obtained from refinery contain unavoidable trace amounts of olefins as an impurity. The trace olefins must be removed because these undesirable olefins are harmful to the following separation processes. Alkylation reaction has been used to remove olefins with acid catalysts. Optical and electrochemical sensor for H2S sensing were developed using silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) immobilized onto polyelectrolyte membranes (PEMs) as substrate. Two approach for the deposition of the silver nanoparticles namely in-situ and ex-situ were compared for their sensing efficiency. The Poly(diallyldimethylchloride) (PDADMAC) and Poly(sodium styrenesulfonate) (PSS) were used to build PEMs via layer-by-layer assembly mechanism as polycation and polyanion respectively. Copper (Cu) and nickel (Ni) were chosen to study since not only their properties are closed to the noble metal properties, e.g. platinum and palladium, but also they are not expensive. This research focuses on how to use natural fibers available from agricultural residues to produce biodegradable materials such as mulch films. Green composites were prepared from natural fibers (peanut shell and bagasse fiber) and polylactic acid (PLA) together with plasticizers. The presence of plasticizers improved PLA molecular mobility as seen by the reduction of glass transition, cold crystallization, and melting temperatures. The addition of natural fibers into PLA brought down decomposition temperature when compared to PLA. The CO₂ hydrate formation in the presence of different tetrahydrofuran (THF), sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), and methyl ester sulfonate (MES) concentrations was investigated in terms of kinetics and thermodynamics. The formation experiment was conducted in the quiescent condition and close system at 3 MPa and 3 °C. The results showed that the CO₂ hydrates formed in the presence of 10 mol% THF, while it did not form with 5.56 mol% THF. The presence of SDS or MES did not promote the hydrate formation. The present work focuses on multi-responsive molecule based on supramolecular chemistry of benzoxazine dimer as a benzoxazine supramolecular crosslinker, fluorescent labelling benzoxazine conjugated with rotaxane system and benzoxazine pendant group block copolymer. The use of azobenzene derivatives in benzoxazine synthesis provides light responsive behaviour. The remained hydroxyl group from aminoalcohol allows benzoxazine to conjugate with desired functional group. The dihydroxyl benzoxazine acts as molecular crosslinker for poly(acrylic acid) by conjugation. Polyelectrolyte composite membranes of cationic PDADMAC and anionic PSS assembled into polyelectrolyte multilayer (PEM) thin film and polyelectrolyte complex (PEC) membranes were used as matrix embedded with several additive molecules. Nano-scale PEM films fabricated using the layer-by-layer deposition method and the loading and release of a hydrophobic model drug curcumin (Cur) was studied for drug delivery and sensing applications. CeO2-ZrO2 was synthesized by co-precipitation (CZ copre) and nanocasting (MSP CZ) methods for supporting 9%wt Cu catalyst loaded by deposition-precipitation (DP) method (CuCZ copre and Cu-MSP CZ, respectively). Both CuCZ copre and Cu-MSP CZ were used in esterification reaction for biodiesel production. Structure and specific surface area of the synthesized supports and catalysts were characterized by XRD and BET tecnhiques. It was found that the specific surface area of CZ copre was less than MSP CZ support. Cinnamyl alcohol (COL), versatile chemical in fragrance, flavoring, and pharmaceutical industries, can be found in only small amounts in nature. Generally, COL can be synthesized via selective hydrogenation of cinnamaldehyde (CALD), natural oil, at aldehyde functional group under high pressure of hydrogen gas. In this work, NixSny intermetallics were used as catalysts in selective hydrogenation to obtain COL. These catalysts were synthesized via mechanical alloying, economic and environmental method, and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD). This work studied the conversion of lignocellulosic materials to sugars, the intermediates for bioethanol production, by a bacterial enzyme. Due to the complex structure of lignocellulose, a cellulase enzyme cannot effectively access and hydrolyse cellulose fibers. Various pretreatment processes of lignocellulose have been studied to enhance enzymatic hydrolysis to date. In this work, corncob was firstly studied for microbial pretreatment using three microorganisms including two bacterial strains of Bacillus subtilis A 002 and Cellulomonas sp. Methyl palmitate or palmictic acid methyl ester was used as both a model solid fat and an oily soil was removed from cotton and polyester above and below the melting point. Surfactants studied were extended surfactants (C12,13-4PO-SO4Na , C12,14-10PO-2EO-SO4Na and C12,14-16PO-2EO-SO4Na), alcohol ethoxylate (EO9), sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), methyl ester sulfonate (MES), methyl ester ethoxylate (MEE), and mixed surfactants between extended surfactant (C12,13-4PO-SO4Na) and sodium mono- and dimethyl naphthalene sulfonate (SMDNS).
