Haptic Systems: Trends And Lessons Learned For Haptics In Spacesuits, Mohammad Amin Kuhail, Jose Berengueres, Fatma Taher, Mariam Alkuwaiti, Sana Z. Khan

All Works

Haptic technology uses forces, vibrations, and movements to simulate a sense of touch. In the context of spacesuits, proposals to use haptic systems are scant despite evidence of their efficacy in other domains. Existing review studies have sought to summarize existing haptic system applications. Despite their contributions to the body of knowledge, existing studies have not assessed the applicability of existing haptic systems in spacesuit design to meet contemporary challenges. This study asks, “What can we learn from existing haptic technologies to create spacesuits?”. As such, we examine academic and commercial haptic systems to address this issue and draw insights …

Towards Machine Learning-Based Fpga Backend Flow: Challenges And Opportunities, Imran Taj, Umer Farooq Feb 2023

Towards Machine Learning-Based Fpga Backend Flow: Challenges And Opportunities, Imran Taj, Umer Farooq

All Works

Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) is at the core of System on Chip (SoC) design across various Industry 5.0 digital systems—healthcare devices, farming equipment, autonomous vehicles and aerospace gear to name a few. Given that pre-silicon verification using Computer Aided Design (CAD) accounts for about 70% of the time and money spent on the design of modern digital systems, this paper summarizes the machine learning (ML)-oriented efforts in different FPGA CAD design steps. With the recent breakthrough of machine learning, FPGA CAD tasks—high-level synthesis (HLS), logic synthesis, placement and routing—are seeing a renewed interest in their respective decision-making steps. We focus …

Forecasting Energy Consumption Demand Of Customers In Smart Grid Using Temporal Fusion Transformer (Tft), Amril Nazir, Abdul Khalique Shaikh, Abdul Salam Shah, Ashraf Khalil Jan 2023

Forecasting Energy Consumption Demand Of Customers In Smart Grid Using Temporal Fusion Transformer (Tft), Amril Nazir, Abdul Khalique Shaikh, Abdul Salam Shah, Ashraf Khalil

All Works

Energy consumption prediction has always remained a concern for researchers because of the rapid growth of the human population and customers joining smart grids network for smart home facilities. Recently, the spread of COVID-19 has dramatically increased energy consumption in the residential sector. Hence, it is essential to produce energy per the residential customers' requirements, improve economic efficiency, and reduce production costs. The previously published papers in the literature have considered the overall energy consumption prediction, making it difficult for production companies to produce energy per customers' future demand. Using the proposed study, production companies can accurately have energy per …
