Dividing And Conquering Meshes Within The Nist Fire Dynamics Simulator (Fds) On Multicore Computing Systems, Donald Charles Collins

Masters Theses

The National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) provides a computational fluid dynamics model of a fire, which can be visualized by using NIST Smokeview (SMV). Users must create a configuration file (*.fds) that describes the environment and other characteristics of the fire scene so that the FDS software can produce the output file (*.smv) needed for visualization. The processing can be computationally intensive, often taking between several minutes and several hours to complete. In many cases, a user will create a file that is not optimized for a multicore computing system. By dividing meshes within the …

Comprehensive Fire Protection And Life Safety Evaluation Of The Robotic Manufacturing Science And Engineering Laboratories (Rmsel) Facility, Tomas M. Sanchez Jun 2015

Comprehensive Fire Protection And Life Safety Evaluation Of The Robotic Manufacturing Science And Engineering Laboratories (Rmsel) Facility, Tomas M. Sanchez

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

A comprehensive fire protection and life safety evaluation has been performed for the Robotic Manufacturing Science and Engineering Laboratory (RMSEL) at Sandia National Laboratories (SNL). The evaluation considered both prescriptive and performance based aspects. Current codes, such as the 2012 International Building Code and the 2013 version of NFPA 13 – Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems, are generally the basis for the prescriptive evaluation even though they are not the code of record for the building. Use of current codes for this evaluation is mostly for academic reasons. Nevertheless, the facility is generally compliant with the provisions of …

Fire Protection And Life Safety Engineering Analysis- Center For Science And Mathematics, Orelvis Gonzalez Cruz Mar 2015

Fire Protection And Life Safety Engineering Analysis- Center For Science And Mathematics, Orelvis Gonzalez Cruz

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

The Life Safety and Fire Protection systems in Cal Poly’s Center for Science and Mathematics (CSM) were analyzed and evaluated in this project, according to the requirements of the applicable codes and pertinent standards. The evaluation was conducted through a prescriptive-based approach, in conjunction with a performance-based approach. On one hand, the prescriptive-based approach considered the analysis of the Structural Fire Protection and Means of Egress in the building and the existing Fire Detection/Alarm and Fire Suppression Systems. On the other hand, the performance-based approach included an Egress Analysis, which assessed the Required Safe Egress Time (RSET) and the Available …
