Breaking Coastal Hypoxia: Destratification Of Gulf Of Mexico Deadzone To Encourage Oxygen Transport Downwards To Maintain Marine Fauna, Veda Thipparthi

LSU Master's Theses

As a consequence of seasonal eutrophication and human input, a vast hypoxic area termed The Dead Zone develops every year in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM) during summer along the Louisiana coastline characterized by vertical seawater density-stratification with oxygen concentrations less than 2 mg.l-1 at the seafloor. It poses a threat to bottom-dwelling faunae and their environment which has negative ecological and economic consequences. This project aims to mitigate hypoxia by employing mechanical impellers placed at strategic water depths and locations in the Gulf. Enhanced transport of oxygen results by mixing oxygen-enriched seawater at the surface, downward into the …

Supercritical Co2 Foam Enhanced Oil Recovery: From Mechanistic Model Fit To Lab Experiments To Field-Scale Evaluation, Mohammad Izadi Sep 2019

Supercritical Co2 Foam Enhanced Oil Recovery: From Mechanistic Model Fit To Lab Experiments To Field-Scale Evaluation, Mohammad Izadi

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

This study investigates how a mechanistic foam modeling approach based on bubble population balance is applied to a series of laboratory experimental data of a supercritical CO2 foam in reservoir conditions to extract model parameters (topic 1). The model with model parameters determined from the fit is then used to estimate how far fine-textured strong foam can propagate into the reservoir, before turning into coarse-textured weak foam and before being segregated by gravity (topic 2). With the help of mechanistic model, a possible range of gas mobility for supercritical CO2 foam is calculated and the resulting gas-phase mobility …

A Novel Privacy Disclosure Risk Measure And Optimizing Privacy Preserving Data Publishing Techniques, Marmar Orooji Jul 2019

A Novel Privacy Disclosure Risk Measure And Optimizing Privacy Preserving Data Publishing Techniques, Marmar Orooji

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

A tremendous amount of individual-level data is generated each day, with a wide variety of uses. This data often contains sensitive information about individuals, which can be disclosed by “adversaries”. Even when direct identifiers such as social security numbers are masked, an adversary may be able to recognize an individual's identity for a data record by looking at the values of quasi-identifiers (QID), known as identity disclosure, or can uncover sensitive attributes (SA) about an individual through attribute disclosure. In data privacy field, multiple disclosure risk measures have been proposed. These share two drawbacks: they do not consider identity and …

Transient Flow Analysis Of A Closing Blowout Preventer Using Computational Fluid Dynamics (Cfd), Daniel Barreca Jun 2019

Transient Flow Analysis Of A Closing Blowout Preventer Using Computational Fluid Dynamics (Cfd), Daniel Barreca

LSU Master's Theses

Reliability of blowout preventers (BOPs) is crucial for drilling and production operations. Erosion of BOP components and hydrodynamic forces on rams may cause failure of BOP elements to seal the well. Transient computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations of fluids within the wellbore and BOP offer quantitative and qualitative data related to this reliability during the closure of various BOP components. Since limited research has been published in transient CFD simulations of closing BOPs, this thesis discusses challenges and solutions to simulating closing blowout preventers. Single component fluids are simulated through several BOP geometries such as annular preventers, pipe rams, and …

An Experimental Study On The Impacts Of Using Multiple Pdc Cutters On Rock Cutting Process, Kian Sheikhrezaei May 2019

An Experimental Study On The Impacts Of Using Multiple Pdc Cutters On Rock Cutting Process, Kian Sheikhrezaei

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

The ultimate goal in drilling in oil and gas applications is to improve the rate of penetration (ROP) and one important factor that affects the ROP enhancement is Drill Bit. Today, PDC bit plays a significant role in drilling all types of formations. Besides the material development, bit design or a way of cutters arrangements on a bit is a regular challenge for bit designers to improve the bit performance. This concept has been experimentally studied in this work.

Different sets of cutters arrangements containing three PDC cutters on a flat bit profile have been used to conduct a variety …
